My 04 does better than that. I average 17 around town. Have gotten as high as 22. 5 on the road. Mostly average 19. 5 on the road.

I've not kept the exact records you have kept, but when making a trip, I always hand calculate and about 1 out of three tanks around town I hand calculate.

My typical mileage is about 2 mpg less than the overhead shows.

I also have 49,638 miles on my truck. Mileage got better after 30,000 miles.

Sounds good to me. I get around 12. 5/13mpg hand calculated. Been that way since I bought the truck. It now has 19k miles on it. Sure I know it is a 4x4 DRW but it should get better than this. I have even had the mileage TSB done, the only thing that did was change the overhead display. I guess if you do not hand calc. the mileage, you are living in DC's dreamland. :(

The first thing to look at is your fueling monitor... ... ... ... . you may be surprised at how much idle time you have.

I thinks those numbers are just a little lower than they should be considering you have 3. 73 gears. My 05' w/44K miles averages 16. 8 with alot of traffic driving. Highway dosent do too much better because of my 4. 10's. But if I drove normal I know I could break in the mid 17's. I did notice that filling my rear tires to 80 psi. improved milage quite a bit and hardly roughened the ride.

A lot of stop and go will KILL your milage. A 7,000+ lb truck takes a lot of juice to get started. Also if you have an auto and the TC isn't locked up because a lot of your around town driving is under 50 mph that can hurt it too.

When you are on the highway if you drive much over 70 mph that can cut into it also. The first five minutes or so of driving before the engine warms up is also not very fuel efficient.

I would guess that a lot of the above mentioned items are hurting your milage. It looked like when you did 600 miles all in one or two days (probably all hwy miles) that your truck did all right at 20 mpg.

I would say for a truck without a chip your milage is what I would expect if a lot of the above mentioned items are cutting into it. One of the biggest thing to keep in mind when driving around town is that you are in an EXTREAMLY heavy vehicle and you need to do as much as you can to preserve your momentum (ie costing up to red lights so you don't need to come to a complete stop). Also if you are in a 40 or 45 mph speed zone run your truck up to 50 mph to get the TC to lock up and then either hold it there or drop back a little (it will not unlock until you get below 45 mph).

My truck gets it's BEST milage at 50 mph, anything higher or lower will reduce it. When I'm on the highway and the limit is 55 that is what I do or just slightly over. If the limit is 75 and I drive over 80 my mpg go into the toilet. Of course any headwinds compound the problem.

I'm hoping it gets better as I put on the miles. while on teh highway I try to keep it under 2000 RPM, time spent idling may be hurting me some. When we go on trips, it seems to average around 20 MPG. Might need to check the tire pressureas well.

Thanks for the feedback!
