Your answer will always be some multiple of 9 (9, 18, 27, 36, 45, 54, 63, 72, 81). The symbol for those numbers will always be the same, but the group as a whole will change symbols with each new round.

Ok, I was doing it wrong, I picked 17, and then looked at the 17, every time, it would be one number off. But I see now that they wanted me to look at the nine.
