I have someone that is wanting to pay a little debt off with a 98 quad cab 24 valve 5 speed flatbed dually. I really have no use for the truck but could use the flatbed. The truck is mechanical sound but the interior is well worn. I don't have much experience with the second generation trucks is there a very big market for these trucks and are they pretty easy to move. Is it easier to sell with the flatbed or with a dually truck bed.

The 2nd gen trucks are selling at a premium around these parts. Give her a good spit shine and list it on craigslist and youll have people calling from all around.

Same for around here. The 2x4s don't bring as much as the 4x4s, but they're still up around $3500-4500 mechanically sound, under 300k miles. A decent paint job, a good interior, and few oil leaks will up the price another 1k, and maybe another $500 for the bed, unless it's a really NICE bed.....

I'm sure trucks with a clean body/chassis are a dime a dozen around you, up here the same truck would easily sell for double. One example that comes to mind is a 01 2500 with 170k I came across on CL recently. Not sure where the truck was from but by the pics it was in very sound condition. He had it listed at 14k. I don't know for sure that he sold it but the ad was only posted for about a week.

There is a guy I see that buys body parts from somewhere down south and brings them back up here, lets just say he makes a pretty good living at it. His ads are always changing, rust free panels are a premium.

I've taken some flack for posting the same information here from from time to time. Apparently people don't believe the prices that rust free vehicles go for here.

Not really, just typical 24-valve stuff... ... Age and health of the VP-44, lift pump set up/fuel pressure, condition of the turbo, block casting # and/or signs of cracking if it is a 53, etc.

yep it really amazes me what people will spend. I got a pretty good deal at 10k on my one owner 98 with under 67k miles. I could easily make money on it if I sold it even though I've tacked on close to 35k miles since owning it. But the cost of replacing it with something else is enough to stop me in my tracks.

Also look at the exhaust manifold for oil seepage between the manifold and block. That's a bad sign, as well as excessive blowby; unscrew the oil fill cap and see if it will sit over the hole or blow off.

CLEAN 2nd gen 5/6-speed 4x4 trucks around here are sitting on dealer lots with ~$20k asking prices.

As with houses and everything else, there is an inverse relationship between selling price and time to sell. Price it low and it will sell fast. Price it high and it'll sit forever.
