I just had to do it. The PSD Ford was going way too slow, so I down shifted to fourth and let her rip with my SO Cummins. I looked down at the tach when I shifted to 5th and it was turning 3500rpm. I thought this thing would stop running at redline. How far will it rev before it stops and is this bad to rev it a little into redline?

I can only get mine to rev to 3,500 before the governor starts to cut in and de-fuel I think. Any how 3,500 is the max mine will

rev and i have tried it many times. :D :D

One time was pulling a 18,000ib forklift out of a three foot snowbank up a hill. I put it in 4wd and 2nd and let her rip. Ran it against

the governor for about 15 seconds to get the lift unstuck. It was quite a site to see rooster tails of SNOW shooting 30 feet behind the truck and in the air. Who needs a snow blower:D :D

Sorry for the going off on a straight piped tangent but what I wanted to say was 3,500 RPM is max.

Just my two cents!

Thanks

Thanks for the input. Looks like 3500 is the agreed upon rev limit. I was just surprised to see it rev above redline at all. Thought the governor would start shutting things down right at redline.

i've had my tach touch 3700 rpm [didn't let off quick enough when shifting] but my truck normally starts to defuel at around 3100 rpm or so and if in neurtal and you peg it, the engine will hit about 3500 then will back down to about 31-3200 rpm where the governor will hold it. the governor isn't like a rev limiter in a gas engine. it is a soft limit. if you down shift you can over speed the engine, but if you keep it under 4200rpm you should be ok [i've seen near 3900rpm when downshifting to 3rd]
