Just took my first long trip in the ’01. I drove from the Big Bay east to Primrose Colorado on the eastside of those big hills. I ran out on Hwy 50 so I could see just what a 6000 lbs. truck would do. I could get only 85 mph @ 2195 rpm with the cruse control on. I tried running at 111mph at 3300rpm and setting the cruse but no luck. It always drops back to the same speed & rpm. Is 111mph @ 3300rpm about right for WOT top end? Boy that bid truck went up those hills as fast as I could stand to drive it. I averaged 17 to 16 mpg coming and going. Not too shabby for 85+mph 90% of the time up hill and down. :D :D :D

Top end

Same here, cruise control tops out and doesn't want anything faster on its conscience! Maximum foot extension and therefore maximum speed is still classified by D. O. D. ;)

My 2001 HO 6 speed tops out at 103 mph, this of course is grossing 26,000 lbs. Have not checked top speed empty yet. It's never empty. I'll have to check it after I add a gear vender over/under. Truck has 3. 54s allready. What is the land speed record for a dually 4x4 cummins? 148 MPH ?

Please let me know where you are going to be driving and when so I can stay off the same roads as you!!! That's all i'm gonna say.

Come on Chris! have a littlr fun. Head out west and ck out Hwy 50.

You Right side Guys miss all the fun. Come over to the Left side and LIVE!

I work by the Bay and its 35mph bumper to bumper for weeks on end. Then a friend told me about Hwy 50. ! Long, straight, flat, & NFL!    :D :D :D

JES; Be aware that if anyone hooks up a Cummins diagnostic

computer they will always be able to pull up that 111 mph top speed. Big brother will Know. !!!! Also DC.

OH NO! say it ain't so! Will DC call the Nevada Cops and report me? Or will they just void my warentee for speeding? One more reason NOT to go to Dodge. Too bad White or Peterbuilt don't build a Cummings PU. I'd damn sure buy one. I have never found a dodge dealer that I thought was worth a diddly damn. Boy do I love my truck. Guess I'll just have to dance with the Devel and do the best I can.   :D

Big brother...

After events like that, it probably would be adviseable to disconnect the batteries before going to a D-C dealership for service work. Disconnecting them for a few minutes should wipe out the computer memory.

Driving that fast while heavily loaded with Chrysler brakes would seem to be suicidal. Reminds me of a time when a semi loaded with grain wieghed 128000 lbs at a local grain elevator's scale. Everyone's eyes got big on that one.

I agree with the left side, get in the hammer lane and have some fun sometime. Maybe thats not as easy or safe in Ohio. I'm in SD, speed limit is 75 and 80 is average. I'm sure nobody elses truck has ever gone 90 or 105 mph thats way too fast. Is it safe ? All depends weather/road conditions, traffic/ no traffic, visibilty/length of road somtimes 10 mph is too fast sometimes 80 isn't fast enough. It all depends but rest assured your safe on the road when I'm on it!!!!!!

GEEZ! I swear think some of you guys would try tying a trailer on the backend of SHOCKWAVE, if you could find a way to keep from burning up the trailer with the jet exhaust!

I can see it now, 393 mph with a 35' house on wheels behind, using 200gals of JP2 per mile.

Yeeeehaaaaa!

Come on!! I have never flamed anyone on this site yet, but that statement made by a guy that claims to have driven Pickup 103MPH at a gross weight of 26000 lbs. is the ultimate in arrogance, and ignorance. I don't care how good you think you are, no one with half a brain cell would drive like that while loaded like that. I have personally witnessed the carnage that results when jerks think they are so good they can drive like this while towing trailers. It isn't pretty. I just pray that my wife/kids/myself, or any other sane innocent person is nowhere near you.

I like to drive fast myself. But not when towing a trailer, and not when I have chosen to ignore the limits of the vehicle. The engineers who design these things ARE SMART ENOUGH TO KNOW WHAT THEY CAN SAFELY HANDLE, and nowhere will you find it written that 26000 gross is OK for these trucks, let alone at 100 + MPH.

Sorry for the flame, but you really need to get a clue.

300 foot truck pulls hmmm. It should be quarter mile truck pulls, or better yet oval track racing with campers or trailers. Count me in.

It isn't easy to to get going that fast all the time in Ohio. We have alot State Troopers here and I knoe most of them in my area. We also require front licesnse plates and aren't allowed to have our windows tinted hardly at all either. (too many laws) I've been to SD where the speed limit is 75 and even when you go that fast you still get passed like you are sitting still.

"My 2001 HO 6 speed tops out at 103 mph, this of course is grossing 26,000 lbs"

That was the statement I was responing too. Just imagine if you have a blowout at that speed. I really didn't care how fast you go solo, but with a trailer, well, that's another story. Wasn't trying to make anybody mad. Just throwing my . 02 cents in.

Chris

Hi lug-nut. Just for your information. The 103 was momentaraly with no cars, cats, or dogs in sight for miles. The trailer is not a camper, it was a low profile triple axle. The truck feels safer with it than without it. I have personally witnessed carnages in the past 5 years traveling 500,000 miles. As for the wife and kids, I have 1 wife and 4 kids, and I also pray everyday. I do drive the speed limit 99 percent of the time, As for getting a clue, I won't respond to that. SORRY FOR THE QUOTES WITHOUT THE DETAILS, maybe a flame would not have been necessary, Have a great day.

I have the 4. 10 rear end and reached 100mph. Could have gone faster but wife woke up from a cat nap and told me to "slow this damn thing down while I'm in it". Maybe I'll try it again without her. :D
