How good is your cell phone

Just had another Costo experience

When will people....

Did a presentation last week where I started with that. Seems that the guys I was talking to were used to crappy cell service. I have Sprint PCS and, although I live only a half mile from the main east-west thoroughfare in Eastern NC (and only 3 miles from the Raleigh Beltline), I have to stand in my front yard to get Sprint POS service.

Annoys me greatly that the neighbors walking down the street get to hear my end of the conversations.

Of course, I had AT&T before this and had the same problem. No-cost long distance ain't worth it if I have to stand out in the heat/cold/rain to use it.

I have one of the big bag phones. I have had good luck with it. I think it has 6 watts of power vs . 3 of a watt for the smaller ones. Mine stays in the truck, I don't carry it.

Okie, those older car mount phones are great. but the problem with that is you cant buy them anymore. also the providers are in the works to quit offering analog service in metropolitan areas. this means your phone will quit working soon. unless you live and stay in the sticks.

just be prepared

I understand that the older high power phones would only output the high power if the ground station allowed it. Otherwise they have the same power as the new ones. Chances are, in a metro area, it's on low power anyway.

CAN YOU HEAR ME NOW!!!!!

The reason the twit in the Verizon ads keeps asking that question is because no one can. He answers himself because he is nuts.

Can you hear me now?

I had an analog phone (real cell phone). It worked everywhere but on a ski hill near Hurley.

Can you hear me now?

My Verizon doesn't work at my house. In a 10 mile drive I get dropped 7 times and there are dead zones where I can't get a signal.

Can you hear me now?

No one in this area will sell me an analog phone. "Why would you want one?" is the typical dumb@$$ question the morons ask after I inquire about analog. "Because it works better. " is my response but they don't get it.

Can you hear me now?

Try calling Verizon. It takes 7-10 minutes of automated "Welcome to Verizon... " before I get the extension I need.

Can you hear me now?

If your payment is late, you can only get the automated message stating how much you owe.

Can you hear me now?

As you can tell, this is a bit of a touchy subject for me. I really hate being roped into a service contract that provides no service. I will be making a video of me doing a big smokey burnout over my POS Verizon phone when my contract is up.

CAN YOU HEAR ME NOW?!?!?!?

Nextel

My nextel is the same way. There are a lot of dead spots where you get dropped and then in a few seconds it will pick back up. Overall considering billing, customer service and things like that I like it better than the others I have had (three). Also the direct connect radio feature is good to have. I have no special interest in any of them. Just letting you know my experiences. Hope it helps. LOL

That's amusing Todd... evidently you've never been to Texas City, TX. First time I drove through it, I missed it because I glanced down to check my speed.

I liked those analog phones too. At least you could make out what somebody said when you have a bad signal. With digital, it drops the frames and you miss whole friggin' words.

Voicestream. I like it better than the cingular and Sprint phones that I had before. I use a Nokia phone and pay $49 a month for 3000 anytime of the day or night minutes per month, no long distance and no roaming in a 5 state area. .

Very good plan if you can get it in your area.

I only have a few areas where signals come in weak but you get to know these areas and it only affects a quarter mile here and there.

I have the Nokia 6120 and Cingular as the provider.

Coverage is fair to OK. In my house, it just plain sucks!:(

I got one of those cheapo $10. 00 stick on cell antennas and it's better while in the house. I also have a glass mount antenna in the truck. This helps too.

I pay $38. 00 a month, and I've been using the crap out of it. I think last months bill was for something like 1600+ minutes!!

I make that free nationwide and nights & weekends work for me.

We have Verizon and the Motorola Startac flip phones. The phones are the best for noisy conditions. I can be on the freeway in my '55 VW at 70mph with the window down and my wife can't hear much if any background noise. Wouldn't you know, they dis-continued making them:confused: Chris

I've had an audiovox and a nokia 5190 in the past, my Nextel i700 works EVERYWHERE my old phones wouldn't. I know of 1 or 2 area around here that I can't get a signal as opposed to my old phone's 1 or 2 places it DID have signal

What motor head said. I have one of the motorola startec phones. It has the best reception with the antenna extended. I wish it has and external antenna jack thought for when I am in those weak areas. It has better reception that most other phones I have seen, but nothing beats thase old analog phone that mount in the car with a good external antenna.

Nextel rocks

I, too, Have the i700. I talk about 2000 minutes/month. Nextel phones and coverage is top notch, Their customer service Is costing them business. (it SUCKS). I love the Direct Connect too.

It is great for talking to my drivers for free.

I have the Nokia 6120 and ATT service. Service sucks. Always dropping calls, signal pretty iffy. I travel all over the western 11 states and there is a lot of areas with no coverage. One of my partners had an analog phone that would work where the digital ones wouldn't. They just made him get a digital and now he can't get out in many of the areas he could before.

I know lots of people use these thigs all the time but I wish they would just turn the damned things off and lets go back to basics. I'm getting tired of having to listen to private calls when eating dinner in a resturant, walking down an isle in a store, in a movie theatre during a movie. Also when a car starts weaving all over the road, it's a good bet the driver is talking on the phone.

I don't talk on the phone unless something needs to be discussed. Don't see much sence in calling just to see how the weather is or to have someone tell me to pick up a carton of milk at the store. People should be able to plan better than that. I don't even carry my cell phone, it stays in the vehicle. When I'm at home and not on the road, I don't even turn the stupid thing on.

I've had Verizon(when they were GTE) Cellular one, and now Cingular. All of 'em suck... dropped calls, no signal... . digital is NOT the way to go... analog was way better, we're being sold a bill of goods that ain't real good...

I went with the nation wide plan hoping it would have better coverage... NOT...
