I am weighing my options for my first big bombs on my truck and am looking at injectors or box. How hard are injectors to install? I saw some injectors on the TST website that looked pretty good, they were 275/660 Bosch injectors. Does this mean my HP would jump to 275 and Torque to 660 with just these? If so what would I jump to if I added a Edge Ez box for power?

Consider what your transmission will hold as you go along. I am going to start from the "other" end. Just an idea.

jrandonl,

275hp injectors will add about 40hp and 80ft lbs to any stock truck and a little more for the HO models and they are compatible with the Edge boxes and accent them well.

No

275 injectors will not give you 275 horsepower. They are used with a different program in the ECM to get the rated figures.

If you want 275 horsepower your going to need a stage II injector.

You should also know that the injectors are going to perform at a higher rpm then the EZ. Think about where you want the power.

At what RPM do the 275's perform at their designed level?

OK, the dark side is calling. I'm getting DD Stage II fever (yeah, I know I'll be calling Peter for a Con O-FE, too :( ).

We tow a 13,500 lb 36' triple slide 5ver - our GCW loaded and on the road is 21,180 (21,500 GCWR). With the 4. 10 rear end, we're running about 2300 RPM at 70 mph. The EZ really helped the mid-range torque on our truck, but you can feel it fall off quickly around 2700 RPM when accelerating through the gears. Also, there are a few grades in the Texas Hill Country where I can't quite hold speed with the current setup. Are the DDII's gonna help me in, say, the 1900 RPM and up range?

Also, with the EZ and boost elbow (along with the BHAF and 4" exhaust), I'm running about 30 PSIG max boost and 1100 degF max EGT when towing - obviously, I'm in an excess air situation right now. Will the DDII's drive me over 1250-1300 degF max EGT towing up the long grades? Any other "gotchas" to be aware of?

Powerband

John,

>At what RPM do the 275's perform at their designed level?

Injectors peak at 2700, the same as the normal engine peak.

However the EZ peaks at 2000 and tapers off as you go higher.

They sort of compliment each other since they address different ends of the powerband.

Rusty,

>DDII's gonna help me in, say, the 1900 RPM and up range?

Sure will. That's where the horsepower jumps up (maybe more like 2100 and up).

Regarding egt's, you will see more temp and you will want to watch the pyro on the hills in the hot weather. It would not be a problem for me. I tow with III's and a EZ. As we have mentioned, the two items are strongest at different points in the powerband. In this way the egt is lower then it would be if they both added power at the same rpm. You might also see an improvement in economy with the II injectors.

EnjoyOo.

agree w/Bob Weis

Bob has a very good suggestion. I started out with just the injectors you mention and due to more power at a lower throttle possition, I had slippage in the lockup clutch around 50-70 mph. BD has a device that may help temporarilly. This device fools the transmission into producing higher pressures at lower throttle possitions. Long term, though, you should be looking at an upgrade to your automatic transmission (assuming that is what you are driving). I went with the ATS triple lock converter and valve body and am extreemly pleased; however DTT, Dave Goerend and others are also viable solutions.

The transmission was so solid after the ATS upgrate, I had to have the Edge Comp too, then gauges... ... ... ... . and so it goes.

Thanks, HVAC. When installing your injectors, one of the hardest steps is getting everything in the back of the engine loosened up and re-tightened. It's just not a good angle to work at. I did mine in a little under three hours.
