Went across HWY 299 west bound from Redding Ca. last week. Towing the toy hauler on the way up the grade there was one way traffic control. I was behind a older style class B motorhome and he was only able to go 15 or 20 mph or so The truck was in the tow haul mode. I have a Edge insight so I was watching the gear I was in ( 3 ) and lockup ( not )and how hot the trans was getting. It spiked to 240 for less than 2 minutes and I was able to get around the MH and got the torque converter to lock up and get the speed up and the temp dropped down to 190. My question is should I change the Trans fluid ? and or did I hurt anything ?

No you should be fine it'a not like it was that way for Hour's it was a very short period of time theses new truck's are made to run hotter then the older 1's

While climbing the Big Horn and Teton Passes, my 2008 had pegged my transmission temp gauge at 285 for awhile because of the road construction and very rough gravel road. I had no ill affect, the fluid never even gave a hint of being burnt or turning color. The cooling systems on these rigs are unbelievable!

Pilot error, I only have 5000 miles on this truck and it is my frist paddle shifter. I am old school and will change the fuild and add a deeper pan. Thanks for the info.

I've hit 265 before in a similar driving situation at 24,000#, that was about 120,000kms ago. I have not done any transmission work yet and I'm at 178,000kms now. I added a deep pan and an aux cooler just behind the transfer case with a fan on it and the highest that I've seen since is about 220. I don't think you have anything to worry about. Deep pans buy you more time before you get too hot, but can take longer to cool the extra fluid volume down afterwards.

If you haven't already gotten your filter's because the trans has a spin on and a reg filter you can get them from Geno's at a really good price
