Hi All,

While enjoying the weather and scenery in Colorado last week, I noticed some temperatures I have never seen before. Towing my 4000 lbs travel trailer up fairly steep grades, my EGT's would hit 1350 fairly quickly, and I would have to back off the throttle to cool her down (and thus bring the speed down too:{ ). Notice I do have the #6 plate forward. I have heard that 1200 should be the maximum level. How do I bring these down some without re-adjusting my great level of power?

Secondly, while returning to Phoenix with the A/C on in 100 degree weather, my temp gauge climbed up to about 210 on a couple pretty good hills motoring along about 70. Is this a typical figure, or should I look to cooling issues?

Thanks in advance.

~Chris

I have a 95 with a 5 speed and a #10 plate and experience the problem you have. I have a k&n , and a high flow muffler. I used to run a straight pipe, this really helped with the egt's, but the drone when pulling gets annoying. I want to get a mega cannon air filter for even better flow. For now I find I have to shift to fourth when I hit a steep grade when towing my 7000# fiver, thus increasing rpm, thus giving more boost and this will drop your egt's. Hope this helps.

Thanks you two. I agree altitude could be the biggest factor. Good point.

I am still missing feedback on my seemingly high motor temps. I have never seen the gauge crawl past 190 until this trip, where it hit 210 or so. Is this abnormal pulling a load up a 6% with the A/C on? Experiences anybody?

Towing 9000 pounds as my truck is now it rarely climbs above 1100. As far as duration, I wouldn't let it stay above 12-1300 for longer than a couple minutes.

That must have just been the altitude hurting you, because I have never had trouble with temps, even climbing Monteagle in Tennessee I never had trouble maintaining 70-75mph and again it never broke 1250. You may want to check your thermostat and fan clutch, it shouldn't have gotten that hot, not with EGT's high for so short.

You can run at 210 all day without a problem. Towing up a grade in summer heat is bound to raise the temps, A/C makes it worse. If you are concerned just turn off the A/C on the hills.

Thanks all. Incidentally, I did get out some nasty looking bugs when I returned from Colorado. Next thing is a coolent flush.
