ok, got my autometer tach installed and calibrated works great but have it temp. mounted on dash next to A pillar with velcro and is to wobbley how is the factory tach mounted (screws, glue,2 sided tape)?
I used a large cup I ordered form Autometer. It had as part of the package a mount that had two screw holes. I mounted it over the info center (right side) using two pieces of velcro then running screws thru into top part of dash. Use sheet metal screws as they have larger threads to bite into things.
Hey Doc, thinking back to when I have removed my gauge panel, there may be some sort of mounting bracket under the dash vinyl. Not positive on this but could be. That way you could mount it to look like the factory. Dash is very easy to remove. The first time off may seem difficult but go slow and it should be a breeze. The bezel cover should come off and allow you to peek in and determine if a mounting bracket is present. Good luck.
The factory tach is mounted on the dash with two 1/4" studs and nuts. Mine is mounted above the Info center, but is the Mopar Tach. The Factory mount location is in the left corner next to the windshield. I don't recall seeing hole marks on the underside of the dash for where to drill. I don't think I'll move mine as the A pillar pods would probably rub.
Huh? Well I guess the guy that had this truck before me didn't think he needed the backing plate, cuz there ain't one. The dash was drilled for the two studs out of the tach and a hole for the wires. The nuts are just holding it on, no washers. Doesn't seem to vibrate.
