how is this thing wastegated?

my little 35 is taking a beating i am trying to limit boost i got a boost elbow from piers and checked to make sure the wastegate line was not pinched this had no effect on it. the wastegate is still disabled. i want to the wastgate to work so i can control boost with this little elbow.



with the new gsk's in i can make it hit 45lbs with 3/4 throttle.



i am babying it until i can get this wastegate to close at 35lbs



any ideas how this turbo might be wastegated? this is as stock hx35 i think.



is this the turbo you can put a spent . 22 shell in somewhere to block wastegate?

Put the stock elbow back in, see where that leaves you. If you need more boost, adjust the factory wastegate

i dont have the stock elbow i bought the truck used. anyone got a stock elbow for a 97 they want to let me have?

is your wastegate actuator even functional? might have a busted diaphragm

how do you check that out?

hook up some air pressure to the signal line and watch for movement at the wastegate arm...



is your elbow adjustable? sure it's not just turned all the way in?

i think it maybe all the way in. i never touched it but i was told it was set a 20 s/m lbs. i will check it out today!

I'd back that allen screw out... sounds like it might be all the way in, which effectively blocks off the wastegate.

If the diaphram is fine and you want just an elbow you can get one from the hardware store, it's a 1/8th pipe thread 90 degree barb for a 1/4" hose.
