Is there any specific 'cure' time for new truck paint before one should polish/wax it? Don't want to mess up my new ride!!

Thanks,

George:cool:

My dealer waxed mine before i got there... . I showed up 2 hrs before i said i was going to be there just to check things out . I noticed a scratch and the buffed it out right away... . So they didnt wait at all. .

Zaino Bros!! Thumbs up!Oo.

Do it to it. It'll be beautiful... problem is, people won't be able to look directly at it. Too much shine!!:p

Does this product get rid of the swirls in the clear coat or what do you suggest for that?

This winter has beaten the paint pretty good... its almost like a haze of swirls... I know I can get rid of them, I would just like to do it right the first time and then protect it more afterwards.

Thanks

Scotty

Zaino is the goods!!! A little expensive at first (to buy everything), but worth every penny. I believe you need Z5 to eliminate swirls on a dark vehicle. Then you should follow with Z2. Also, I recommend the flash cure, instead of Z1. I think my favorite product is the Z6. Be sure to get a bottle with your order. Lasts a long time (~20 applications). (keeping up, so far?)

You can buy Zaino direct (that's what I do), or a good source is Ecklers Corvette (in Florida) www.ecklers.com . They can answer your questions & give good recomendations. Advantage of buying from them is reduced shipping charges, if you have a small order. (Zaino direct has a minimum shipping fee). Also, they'll probably ship a catalog, which might be fun to look through.

Back to your original question...

I've heard you can wax/polish a new vehicle right away, because they can cure the paint at very high temperatures, since there are no parts on the body that would be damaged. They can't do this after the vehicle is assembled, so paint, done after-the-fact, will require a longer "resting" period before you seal it.

scotty, for the most part, you wont be able to remove all the swirl marks by hand. I've tried virtually every hand applied swirl remover, and they really don't get rid of much, and may even tire a big arm like yours out. Moving up to the high speed porter-cable buffer from Griot's Garage was the best thing I ever did detail wise. The results are amazing, and far beyond whats achievable by hand. On one of my past vehicles I used griots machine polish 1(finest) with the polish pad set on about 5, and it removed ALL teh swirl marks. The paint was gorgeous! On an older vehicle I did, the swirl marks were bad enough that machine polish 1 wouldn't remove it, so I had to go to 2, then 1, then wax. A simple z5 or scratch-x by hand etc won't cut it... . hate to say.

Wax as soon as you get the truck. I emailed DC on this very issue, and they said due to some special curing of the paint they do, it's hard enough/plenty dry to wax immediately.

The paint is cured within forty-eight hours of being painted. You should get protection on the paint as soon as you can. I have also found Zaino to be the best. Just be sure and follow the directions with each step.
