How long does the urea last?

I bought my first dodge 2500 in 96 and still have it. It's never been to a mechanic, I've done everything myself. After too many upgrades to count I finally realized after pulling 17,000lbs for two years it was time to get a bigger truck. I settled on the 4500 for two reasons, first it could carry the fifth wheel no problem and second it would not be a part of communist califoria's smog program (above 14k sorry 3500's they got you). I've only had the truck a couple months now and we are getting ready to deploy overseas in November, I'm wondering how long does the UREA last in the tank? should I drain it and park the truck?



Also, does anyone know where I can get a real shop manual for this beast. I feel kinda naked without one.

You haven't filled in your signature so we can only guess you own a 2007. 5, 2008, or 2009 Ram 4500.

To date, none of the Ram trucks use urea. So far, they all use a mechanical soot trap which is called diesel particulate filter (DPF).

We've heard rumors that some, possibly all 2010 Ram chassis cabs will have the dpf replaced by a urea system but I don't think anyone has accurate descriptions and details yet.
 
The 2010. 5 4,500 & 5,500 will have urea injection behind the diesel particulate filter , production to start 01/2010 . Epa is still working on the standards , looks to be any where from 2,000 to 10,000 miles based on tank size & driving loads . Only used to reduce nox epa wants to make sure fluid is available the dpf will still be on truck

Will fix the signature, they charged me for something at the dealer that had to do with emissions, Ultra-Clean Diesel System $ 995 but didn't know what it was. Thanks for the info.
 
The "ultra clean emissions" crap is Dodge marketing's way of showing the prospective or actual buyer that their diesel engine is reasonably priced and comparable with the competition but due to the federally mandated 2010 emissions crap which Dodge-Cummins already meets but Ferd and GM have not yet met the current Dodge diesel engine option (may?) cost more than an inferior Ferd or GM.

What we got for our $995 was an egr and dpf and some plumbing we didn't want and fancier software to carry out the regeneration to burn the soot out of the dpf.

I was sitting at the sales manager's computer in my favorite Dodge dealership when I ordered my truck. When I scrolled down the option list and got to the clean diesel line I told him I didn't want that option. He laughed and said, "yeah, good luck on that. "
