I've seen many references to the first 6000miles driven under a load to help the fit and finish. Without towing something around all day, what about just loading the bed with something? If I leave in loaded for that long, will the springs flatten? I know that sounds stupid, but better to ask than find out the other way. Just curious what you guys think. I don't tow anything around but my lazy a$$.

Thanks

I doubt running for ~6000 miles with a load in the bed will sag your springs. Lots of guys run with heavy slide-ins all the time.

But even loaded to max the engine probably won't break a sweat. 3/4-1 ton is nothing compared to 10-15K trailer.

I plan on loading about a 1/2 ton of sand bags in mine before winter to help break-in, but mosly for winter traction.

I've heard that driving the truck with a load on hte bed helps loosen the springs up a bit to provide a better ride, but you won't flatten them. As far as breaking in the Cummins, it won't hurt.

Pulled the 5er about 5K miles in Aug. & Sept. on one trip. Besides the pin weight of the 5er, I've got a 90 gal. tank in the bed. The truck had about 16K on it when I got home. The truck not only ran much better after the trip, I noticed the ride now when empty seems noticeably smoother. I guess the shackles, etc. got loosened up? I notice you have the camper pkg. Throw a 1000 lbs. in the back and you will like how it rides!
