46 years old and about 28 years of service as a volunteer. Started out with what was called day boots, Basically hip waders. A few years as LT now just a grunt.

Follow-Up:

(I was looking for a thread or two about the Killer Dowel Pin to help a friend and saw an old post of mine)

Made it out of Mason County in August of 2007.
Hired on as a FF/PM with Snohomish County Fire District 4....and would ya believe it, they said I had to go to the recruit academy to get hired since I had never been to a "formal" academy in the previous 12 years.
What the heck....go play with the kids and maybe teach me something new....who knows.
Survived that at the ripe 'ol age of 48.....and worked for another 13 years with them.
Hired in as a Firefighter/Paramedic, and Retired out as a Firefighter/Paramedic.
You might find in the previous post where I took a job as a Captain/Paramedic and that landed me in the drivers seat of the SUV.
In some instances, that might have been a good spot to transition into....move up the "food chain" into increasing positions of influence and all that.
Not for me.....Not my goal....when I chose my occupation, I chose it to do exactly what I ended it doing: Front line provider and engineering. (driving the fire truck and working the medic rig)
In the 27+ years in the biz....my last 13 were awesome. B-Shift will always be dear to me....thank you SCFD4! TC SO BZ JI TD CH NB and so many more!

Made it 30 years, Had to retire do to other health issues. If I could I would go back in a minute. I miss it like no other.

To the ones still doing it be safe.

Want to thank all of you the risked your lives to save others! THANK YOU! All of you never seem to get the recognition that you deserve. To run into a burning house or pull up on serious vehicle collisions, you're a special breed of people! To those still serving as stated above, be safe preforming you duties!
