From the back cover my copy:

"The astounding story of a man who said that he would stop the motor of the world-- and did.

Tremendous in scope, breathtaking in its' suspense, ATLAS SHRUGGED is unlike any other book you have ever read. It is a mystery story, not about the murder of a man's body, but about the murder--- and rebirth--- of man's spirit. "

Copyright 1957. A Signet novel.

Ayn Rand's best IMHO.

That book and an article about Oklahoma city by Gore Vidal have had a very significant boost to what I can only describe as wisdom.

I've read it a few times. Pick it up every couple of years or so. Very enlightening. Not sure about the validity of everything put forth in the book, but certainly puts a new spin on the involuntary shifting of resources from those who have to those who do not. The proposed ramifications are interesting, to say the least . . . . .

So who exaclty IS John Galt, anyway?

Enjoyed it immensely, although I must reluctantly admit that a lot of the philisophical mumbo-jumbo went right over my head. I remember skimming over several paragraphs thinking to myself "when are they going to start talking about the trains again???" :-laf :-laf :-laf

Now that I've matured another 20 years, perhaps I should give it a re-read.

One of the networks could make an EXCELLENT miniseries out of this novel and should.
