It is my understanding that after three start/run cycles with no re occurance of whatever set the code that it will reset. bg

Depends on which kind of code it is.

A code 0299 may take up to 50 cycles and your truck stays in limp mode! :--)

The bullydog programmer takes care of that though!! :D

Truth, complete truth!

It takes 9 starts to clear any code and turn off the eng light. The code will still be stored in NVRAM for some time after that but at least the MIL lamp is off. BTW, Just turning on the key wont work.

Its a boost related code that is set on the 04. 5 and newer trucks.

Prairie dog would never see one since he has an 03.

When the 0299 strikes you either have to clear the code with a dowloader or related module or stop and start about 50 times.

The ECM considers it, a start cycle anytime the ECM registers a temperature above 160 deg, so it takes 3 complete cycles to cool down below that and warm up to that to clear a non-reocurring code, so if its a single trip DTC, you will clear it out after 3 of these cycles, unless its a memory set DTC, then fix the problem and clear the code.
