I install Fire Protection in Seattle & a fellow who delivers pipe to the jobsite with a 97 is now @ 474,000 miles with just regular maint. However, he has gone through 2 auto transmissions. He typically pulls between 12,000 & 20,000 lbs.
This 99 has over 267k on it, been a road truck all it's life. Hangie onie kinds of stuff wears out affore the engine. Like both pumps finally had to be replaced last month. transmission was in real good shape for the miles, I decided to fix it when I wanted to rather than when it wanted to, so ATSed it month ago. Expect I'll die affore it does now.
There are two guys that go to a couple of sale barns that I do. One has a 2nd. gen. 3500 12v. Don't know year, has over 300k. on it. The other truck is a '01 3500 w/250k.
Sometimes I question my own motivations. The little woman laughs at me when I say that the Cummins can go 1,000,000 miles. She likes to point out that I have never owned a vehicle that I've personally driven over 50,000 miles. Women can be cruel sometimes So at this point I have 13K miles now on my 2002 CTD and I only drive approx. 18K miles per year so if I keep it until the 5 year 100K mile warranty is up it will be the longest I have ever driven any vehicle and it will be under warranty the entire time. Guess the next time I want to trade I need to come up with a better reason then how long the vehicle will last
