Strange Noise

I just got My first CTD Dodge and so far

I love it!!:)

It's a 99 3500 SLT Quadcab 4x4 5 speed.

It has 126000 miles on it.

How many miles are these beasts good for with regular service?

Are there any things that I need to look for or check at 126000? I have found 2 exhaust manifold bolts missing and have them on order.

Thanks

Mark

Welcome to the TDR! I have 42,000 on my 2001, and that Cummins will outlast the entire truck, for sure. There are a number of million mile trucks out there, and even more in 4 to 500,000 or more mile range before needing an overhaul.

As far as things to look for, others will be of more help than I am there, I've never had one (three now) that I've kept for more than about 60K miles. If you just aquired the truck though, I'd replace all your fluids and filters at the very least, that way you know where you stand with them. Maybe belts and hoses and inspect the drivetrain seals for leaks and worn bushings in the steering and suspension.

210K miles on my '95. I would add an important thing to Kev's list. Give the brakes a really good inspection. The rears are probably out of adjustment. Check the rear axle seals for leakage while you have the drums off. The front pads wear unevenly if the brakes are not serviced correctly.

As far as life span of the engine is concerned, it will still be going strong when you are sick of the truck. A few years ago a member you has one of these engines in a Freightliner FL60 in commercial service decided to do some work on his because it had 386K miles on it. He pulled the head. Took one look. He could still see the cylinder hone marks so he put the head back on and quit messing with it.

Oh yeah, there is an awfull sickness going around on this forum. It's call BOMBING! Run while you still have a chance! Otherwise say goodby to your bank account!:D:D:D:D

140,000 on my 10 year old Cummins. Doesn't need oil added between changes. Like the Energizer commercials - it keeps going, and going, and going... . :D

36K on my 01

The Bumper to bumper warranty is kaput! so the engine warranty is left to 100,000 but I bet I will get to 5 yr befor that much.

86K onmy 98 24v, be carefull reading here, you get the impression that their is always that needs fixin' LOL. Wacht out for the BOMB bug when it bites he don't let go... ... but I wouldn't know anything about that. ;) :D Like one of the members says, "if it ain't broke fix it 'till it is"

All of you guy's with over 50,000 on these 2001's make me feel good. My 2001. 5 just turned 49,000 and I was feeling kinda bad for all of those ,miles. Feel much better now. I have to say though that I really love this Ram so much, that wife and I went out Saturday and bought the second one. Now she has a 2002 CTD with 3,000 miles and all of the bells and whistles even leather. But two 3500 duallys sitting in the driveway is way cool!

my 98 Has 175,300 miles on it.

My really good friend's '01 3500 has 138,000 on it, and he has turned a majority of those, also with the help of me. both are Still running strong!

miles on ctd

hey MOPARMARK them exhaust bolts did they come out or are they broke off. i'm asking because i thought two of mine came out but they broke off. :( i bought new ARP STAINLESS STEEL BOLTS. JUST REPLACED THEM ALL. EXTREME HEAT CAUSED THEM TO BREAK OFF I WAS TOLD. :--) WATCH THEM EGT'S

I have 49,000 miles on my '01. 5. I too was thinking that I had a lot of miles but the other '01's with over 50k are making me feel a little better. The problem is I like the truck so much that I don't like driving anything else!:D I am planning on at least 200k with this truck.

66,000 on my Y2K.

130,000 on Dad's 95.

39,000 on Mom's 99.

FWIW I put 330,000 on a F150/302 --NO TELLING how many I can get on the mighty C.

I put a regular bolt in the hole to check the threads and they seemed ok. I was worried they had broken off but it looks like they have just come out :)
