Just curious about how many miles other people are getting out of thier 315"s. I have about 23,000 on mine and they are pretty well cooked. :( I may switch over to the 18" wheels and go with Nitto Terra grapplers if others are getting the same mileage results that I am out of thier BFG's

Thanks for any input

Miles

I got 38,000 out of them on my 2001 4wd, sb, quad.

I have 12xxx on the new truck and they seem to be doing okay.

Hey Hammerhead- lift the right foot occasionally :p

I got 39,500 (corrected for 9%) out of my first set of 315 BFG's, admittedly a lot of hwy use. Rears do cook much faster, I could get 50k easy if I drove like my dad- but you have to have some fun in life.

On my 01 I cooked a set of smaller BFG AT's in 28k, about the same for a set of dunlops (the ones with the 60k mile warranty).

PS for Ed (Hammerhead), I know where there's a low 200 hr grasshopper for sale, know anyone? Frt deck, 18 hp, 48", 98 vintage.

FWIW, on my first two sets of 315's BFG's, they were mounted the stock 8" wheels. I got 40,000 out of the first set, and 42k on the second set, both sets were basicly slicks at the point when I replaced them. Both sets were rotated every 6,000 miles.

Then I tried 10" wheels, and the same 315 BFG's, I currently have 42,000 on this set, and I bet nearly half the tread is still there, I see no reason not to get 60k out of them. Keep in mind, since the truck was new, I have been constantly upgrading to more power, repeated burnouts, drag racing, and sled pulling. No other real changes have been made except for the 10" wheels, to which I atribute the increased mileage, since my driving habits haven't changed either, still drive it like I stole it.

I also have been rotating these every oil change (6k), they are flat as a board across the tread, no roundedness like on an 8" wheel, no funny wear pattern, and the truck drives straight as an arrow (even with my hands not on the steering wheel). The truck has NEVER had an alignment in it's life, and at over 120k on the clock, still doesn't need one.

You guys are amazing.

I've never gotten more than 2 years (24k miles) from a set of all-terrains. I'm on track to do the same for this set. Probably due for a new set this winter, right at the 2 year mark.

They're wearing perfectly. I very very rarely chirp the tires and I never smoke them. I'm very good to them :)

Maybe it's the AZ heat? I can't even imagine getting 30k , let alone 50k :--) Are you guys doing a lot of dirt road driving?

IMO and experience, 2 years is doing pretty good.

Mine are wearing pretty fast, too. They are mounted on the stock rims, but it was realigned after the installation of the 2" from level. With about 14k miles on them they are about half gone. If I make it to 30K miles they're gonna be slicks. They are wearing pretty even across the tread, and all four have worn about the same amount. IIRC I have rotated them eiither 3 or 4 times so far. I have actually taken it pretty easy on these tires, too... no burnouts or fishtailing coming out of corners like in my last truck. Maybe I just got a soft set... who knows.

Most all you guys are spinning them, just don't know it, can't hear it, trust me.

Maybe, but if that causing such rapid wear, you'd think I'd see the rear wheels becoming noticeably more worn when I rotate the tires (every 6k).

When did you buy your tires? I got mine Oct 02, and they were pretty fresh on the market then (the AT/KO's). Just wondering if they used a softer formula. We are all talking about BFG 315 All-Terrain AT/KO's, right?

My world is rocked now. I've slept well at night knowing that 2 years is normal and that I was on track. The knowledge that somebody is getting 40k++ out of theirs is going to keep me up at night. :{

Rotate

I have been rorating mine about every 2500 miles. I will post the tread depth

when I get them done. Any one know what it is s'posed to be from the factory. I figure I have about 75% left on mine with about 12000 mile son them.

I got mine from the Tire Rack in Dec. 03. They are the "Hummer" 315/70 BFG AT KOs with the black sidewalls. They do have a lot of city miles on them, but they're still wearing too fast IMO.

According to various sites, the 315/70/17 BGF A/T KO has 17/32 tread depth.

I just checked the depth of mine after 42k... ... ... ... ... . 9/32 :) not so bad, less than 1/2 worn.

MPG difference

I've been thinking about this upgrade for my truck, but fear that adding more tire will negatively impact my mileage.

What can you guys tell me about that?

Also, what is the 10 vs 8 inch, is that width? I thought the trucks had 17" on them?

LAstly, would a 305/70/17 differ that much from the 315's?

Thanx

Chris

I got 64855 miles out of my last set of 315 BFG All Terrains. They were on the factory wheels and still had *some* tread left. Granted, not much, but some. :)

No comment on mileage, since I have had 315's on since the truck had 200 miles on it. :)

Yes, the 8 vs 10 is width. (BTW I have 17" wheels on my '01 currently)

I think the 305/70/17 (if BFG made one, I think they only offer the 305 in a 16" wheel) will be slightly shorter, and slightly wider than a 315/70/17.

I think I may have found the issue

Maybe it's a combination of personal taste and I need to switch to a more scientific method. From a visual inspection, I have about 1/4" left on the tread- which I consider to be "pretty close". But if it's 17/32 new, then technically I have 40% tread left.

But, who wants to run around on that kind of tread?

Are you guys running them down to the nub like that?

I run them til I kiss the first tread wear indicator. if I leave the house for a 3k trip and they hit it within 500 miles then I guess I go 2500 miles past that.

I do wear my tires a lot faster on the rear. I'll run about 10k, switch, let the "new" rears catch and pass the wear on the front till they are worn about 1/8" more, then rotate again.

even with the tire buzzing (which I really try not to do) I still got 39. 5k out of the first set.

65k on the stock 265/75 MS Michelins.

35 k on the 315/75 Yokohama MT's.

55k on the 305/70 Nitto TGs, and they'd still go another 5k.

Running on 265/75 AT Michelins now. A lot quieter on the road, but break loose too easy. May be for sale soon.

Looking at 285/70 Yokohama ST's or 325/70 Nittos (365/65's would be cool, but not on stock rims) or maybe even the new Toyo MTs in 285/75 or 315/75.
