How Many miles can you usually go before replacing a stock clutch? Just want to know so I have a idea when I get my new rig. ETH/DEE. Thanks... :)

I don't know, but...

I've got 55K on mine. I've just begun BOMBing so that may shorten the life somewhat. The EZ has not hurt the clutch in any way that is noticeable. I will be putting Bully Dog Stage III's in sometime this summer and that will probably cause the clutch life to shorten considerably. If you stay stock and don't abuse the clutch it will probably get you well over 100K, but that's just a guess.

I replaced mine at 65,000 miles because I was slipping it. In essence mine lasted until my 2nd BOMB. I bought the truck with 24,000 miles on it and at 28,000 miles put on an original Powermax (275 hp/660 ft/lbs), then at about 45,000 miles (guessing - don't remember for sure) I put 275 hp RV injectors and this is where I slipped the clutch a couple of times when abusing it but it would still hold after that. At 65,000 miles I decided I was going to uprate again and knew the clutch wouldn't hold so I replaced it then. I still have the clutch out in the garage and can take a picture of it if you'd like, it still looks great other than small burn marks on the pressure plate (it only slipped about 2 inches) - but other than that it looks fine. If anyone wants it you can have it cheap, btw because I don't have any use for it anymore. I got an email recently from a friend of a friend that put 300,000 miles on his stock clutch at stock power before he started uprating, he changed it at that point and it still looked great he said.

I do some towing & hauling on ocassions. The truck is stock except for removing the cat. I have a 95 with 4:10 gears. I have 186600 miles on my stock clutch. Jeff

I have seen lots of stock trucks go many many miles. My brother had a 98 3500 go 78ooo miles before the clutch, rear, and 5 speed went. His next one, 97 3500 went 187ooo miles on the stock clutch. I recently looked at another 97 2500 for sale with 227ooo miles and still had the stock clutch. The owner just happened to have that many miles on the fuel filter as well!?!?! ("The fuel filter is located there? Well, I have never changed it. ")

I sold my 91 with almost 300,000 miles and the stock clutch had never given a seconds trouble. It is a fact that an unbombed engine will yield a much longer clutch life. Two of my buddies have 97's. One of them put in a plate, the other put in injectors, turbo housing, plate etc. He replaced his clutch about a month ago. It had been slipping for a while. The other 97 does more towing and has about 30k more miles on it, but his clutch is still good.

My 92 Cummins was stock... that clutch lasted 102,000 miles.

My 99 Cummins is not stock. At 37,000 miles, I need a new one.

Mine held for three weeks after I installed my Stage 3's, and that was at 28K. I am at 48K now, and the clutch acts like a TC if I get on it! :D Can't wait to get a South Bend in this thing.

Stock clutch hahahahah

Mine lasted exactly 2900 miles and 3 weeks. granted, the EZ box went on at 98 miles and the DD3's followed at about 2000. We actually had a bet going on how long i could make it last. I thought i could baby it and make her last a while... Lost that one!! Quit laughing Danelle!! oh well. Now i just need to figure out how to explain to the wife why a brand new truck would need a new clutch, and the dealer wont pay for it. She still thinks i need to take it in for service cause of "all that smoke" it makes now. hehe

I've got 80k+ on my 98. 5 5 speed. No clutch problems so far. I've had the 275 injectors for over two years and 50k+ miles. I've got about 5k miles with a PE-EZ and the clutch is still working without a problem.

As long as I don't abuse the clutch I don't see any problem with it lasting for a long time. If I went with bigger injectors I could see where a clutch upgrade might be in order.

Stock Clutch in pretty darn good!

When I replaced the 5sp in my 96 at 150K I changed the clutch. First time I had looked at it. It was 90% gone. THis was with lots of heavy (very heavy or very long) pulling but mostly highway miles w/ engine turned up somewhat.

One spring was broke and it had a few slight burn marks.

Not a bad clutch IMO!
