You want to Film Diesel stuff......

I'm not one. My parents live a small community outside of branson Missouri. Whenver I go back there people always do double-takes when I get out of my truck. For one, my truck is usually not caked in mud and hay. Second, the bed is clean most of the time. Third, I have long hair and look like a fraternity boy (albeit a 6'2'' 230 one) and I'm only 23.

Before when I've been sitting at the pump filling up I've overheard some of those nice ''oh he must be compensating for something'' comments and find them infuriating. Maybe I'm just paranoid, but it gets irritating when people get mouthy... It even happened at Orielly's in Little Rock. The guy at the counter said, "do you USE your truck? Or did you just WANT a diesel?" (I use my truck to pull watercraft, whether it be a trailer full of jetskis or my dad's Mastercraft ski boat. )

Although I could see the diesel envy in his eyes I thought, "Whoa bucko, who are you again?"

No offense to anyone who is in this group:
Are the local ''good ol boy'' cliques so exclusive they shun other diesel drivers? Some of the locals in Branson don't even drive diesels. Why must they scoff at an outsider because I dont pull a 22' ranger 250optimax bass boat everywhere?

Do I need a 6 foot whip antenna? Is that what I'm missing?

The problem may be that there are tons of powerjoke drivers around there

Rule 1: Don't sweat the small stuff, Rule 2: Everything is small stuff, Rule 3: When in dawt, refer to Rule 2. You own a fine truck and you're responsible enough to work for what you want. Enjoy what you have and welcome to the site-------RJ

Yeah, I'm a good old boy. I run mud tires, dual cb antennas and a big deer catcher on the front. I pull heavy trailers, I drive my truck were I need to, and were I want to. No offense intended and none taken. As far as a clique, I guess I didn't know there was one, I hang around people like me that understand me, just like around here, you're welcome to the club.

You have what you want and use it the way you want, isn't that why we own these beasts? They are just jealous that you drive the truck and they don't.

Michael

Yeah, just like MMiller I am considered a good ole boy. There are lots of different groups of people here (South Mississippi) with varied interests, ie: rabbit hunters, bow hunters, fishermen, etc. Like youself my truck is keep clean and waxed and I use it for whatever comes up. I'm sure that there are cliques down here but I choose to ignore them. The passage "Judge not lest you be judged" seems to kind of apply. As far as envy for our trucks or an overabundance of Fords, this area of the country is Dodge Heaven. There are more Dodges here than all other trucks combined. As stated in an earlier post, enjoy your truck and don't think twice about what other people say or think!

One of my favorite books is The Four Agreements. The second agreements is "Don't take anything personally. " The person making the comment to you is reacting to the world the way they see it, which is obviously different from the way you see it.

The third agreements is "Don't make assumptions. " Don't assume anything they say has validity. Keeping these two in mind might help you better deal with good-ole-boy comments in the future. Don't give them the ability to upset your life.

You'll have to read the book for the other two.

I believe I read the readers digest version of that book.

Agreement #3 was "Dont drive Fords"

I'm the guy those folks don't like

I got a 3/4 shortbed diesel truck, with a hood bra and a bedcover. This truck is a 100% highway queen. Doesn't haul much more than my butt(no comments from the peanut gallery).

I got it for two reasons.

1. I've been a diesel head since I was a kid riding my my Dad's Peterbuilt. First thing I ever drove by myself was a Western Star.

2. I think every household should have a truck. I dont' use the bed much, but when I need one, I got one. I don't have to go borow my buddy's truck or rent one. And, if you're gonna have a truck, there should be no reason not to get a diesel. More powerful, better mileage, longer life.

Yeah, I've pulled a few loads that I needed the grunt of the CTD for. nd I was darn glad I have it when I need it.

I dont think I'm a "good ol boy" but I've been asked if I came from Texas on many occasions.

I cant figure that one out being I lived my whole live here in NJ/:confused:

I'm just a paunchy 5"11" 220 lb jersey guy with a short haircut. :-laf

BTW my truck is pretty clean. I've only been washing it every few months, but I dont drive through mud on purpose.

What they said above. Jealousy (sp?)

I'm with you sir. My god. When I first bought hte truck, it was tough to justify it to the masses _NOT IN THE KNOW_. I had little proff of millage and reliabllity on my personal experience.

My dad bought a F350 2wd 6 speed 7. 3 (2001?) for work. that got me hooked. Then I did the car show gig for almost 2 years an that provied my general knowledge of the subject for very educated purchase.

we have always had a truckin hte family.

Now, when I get people asking me "You must pay alot for fuel!!!!!!". I state that 25mpg at 55mph is the norm. I average 19 city/highway if I keep my foot out of the go peddle. It's over all cheaper after 45,000 miles then a 1500 truck with a V8.

I am by far not a redneck by any means. My truck is spotless.

ok, my GF messed up my thinking for the rest of the post. Basicly, They are all tools and have truck envy.

JUST SMOKE'EM :)

Don't sweat it. It sounds like you have just run across some morons and I doubt it has anything to do with "good ole boys".

I live in KY, so I run across plenty of true rednecks. I 'm in the same boat as you, I use my truck but I don't need it so to speak. In my experiences, I get more crap from wealthly people. Around here, rednecks are one of the nicest groups you'll ever meet as a whole IMO. Much more down to earth and friendly.

Don't sweat it. 23? You've still got, or should, have plenty of time to grow out of it. :-laf

Heck, when I was a pup I use to cut my hair once a year - just before I headed back into the Bob (MT's Bog Marshes Wilderness). When you're in the hills for long stretchs, and bathing is few and far between, greasy long locks really suck - and itch too. :(

Now I can't stand having much more than a crew. It's much cooler and a heap easier to take care of. My wife calls it "prisoner style" and hates it. Oh well, she'll eventually get over, or use, to it. :D

As for the good ol' boy. I can't remember hearing the "good" part to often. Unfortunately, I keep hearing the ol' part more and more frequently.

Curtis, I gotcha beat buddy. I have a long bed quad cab 3500 dually. Did I mention it's a 2wd? The most offroad it will ever see is gravel/dirt parking lots. And I'm from California. You shoulda seen the looks I got in Kansas earlier this year when my Dad and I visited his home town. It's a small town in eastern Kansas. Oh ya, it's got a bed rug in the bed, open bed too. And the heaviest I tow is an 8000lb trailer.

I got it because I have wanted a dually crew cab since I was in high school and I happened to love the cummins.

Highway Queen?

hmmm, lets see... ... .

I wash my truck every weekend, unless it's raining or snowing. Washing includes inside wheel wells, springs, shocks... . if you can see it, it gets washed. I clean the engine bay every couple of weeks. My wife got mad at me for refusing to put mulch in it this summer :D . It's not the mulch that was the problem, it was the loader in close proximity to the side of my truck... ... not gonna happen. I'll haul anything but I prefer to load it myself. As far as talking and such I can only imagine what people around here think. Lots of professionals here. In fact you can't swing a dead cat without hitting a BMW or Mercedes. So my noisy truck doesn't always fit in... especially since I added the stacks... LOL :D

To sum it all up... . I think it's Montgomery Gentry that sings the song: "You do your thing, I'll do mine" ;)

What a good old boy anyway

I shave everyday, brush my teeth twice a day and even come my hair. I go to the barbara shop every two weeks. I have fought In two tough man contest and won one a draw. Don't care much for hippies or guys that look like girls. I have been called a Redneck by some. I like my trucks. What brung this up anyway?

I am a good ole boy in the fact that I chew tobacco, drive a diesel, don't like playing stupid games, take life by the horns, love to get dirty, and I drive a diesel. A smoky one at that  . If you like me, fine. If not get away from me, cause I ain't changin for you. I also have an MBA, and have been educated 21 of the 35 years I have been alive. So I guess I am a dumb *** smart feller Oo. . Personally I would rather be a good ole boy than a prissy, but that is just me. And I am not going bald, I have my hair cut that way!

I am with TinyInOhio. I am enrolled in college, My hair is long i don't put up with much stupid crap, and i love my truck. I love to hunt, fish and off road be it on a 4 wheeler, or in a pickup (just not my cummins, lol) I keep my truck clean, but if it came to goin somewhere or bein clean i am goin to go where i want to. I hate city life, and crave the fresh air of the country, I am redneck through and through, i like country music, but i love the classic 70's and 80's hard rock scenes as well, despise rap, and think these little 4 banger cars with mega loud stereos and fart pipe exhausts are rediculous. So yea i guess i am a good ol boy. I love who i am and what I do. anyone who doesn't like me for that can go screw themselves.

AH, I traded my long bed dually off for the shortbed. Got tired of having to use the long line at the toll booths because the hips wouldn't fit through the EZ Tag lanes. I also had about 600#'s worth of bumpers on the thing. Made a nice deterrent to the guy who thinks that just because he's doing the speed limit, he can stay in the left hand lane. :D

Nice, very nice... I found out quite my mistake that if one drives a flame red sport model 3500 dually in the left lane at a very high rate of speed that for some reason everyone was getting the heck outta my way. Which was good as I was very late picking up my daughter.

Next time this happens, just look them in the eye and ask:

"Ya'll know anywher 'round here I can git some grits?"

Make sure you pronounce grits as "GREEE-YITS". True good 'ole boys always use two syllables when prounouncing grits.

If the don't know where you can git some GREEE-YITS, just exclaim "SHEEE-***"

You git the ideer, huh?
