I want to flush my radiator and put some new antifreeze in. Anyone know how many quarts a 2006 ram 2500 5. 9 cummins holds? And also the best brand of antifreeze to use? Thanks.

Its 28 quarts (7 gallons). I use the Mopar 5yr/100k pink antifreeze, but its spendy... Priced just like diesel fuel lately... :-laf

Just saw what I wrote, sorry, I was a little asleep when I wrote that. I meant 4 gallons, but thats if you just drain it and refill, there will still be a little left in. If your actually flushing 28-29 sounds right.

Its a FIVE YEAR long life coolant in it now. ZEROX G-05 is what came in it. Beware mixing some antifreeze will cause it to jell and form crystalls.

Thanks guys going out and buying some antifreeze today... . 7 gallons worth! lol!

Reminder... You only need to buy 4 gals of antifreeze because the total capacity is 7. 5 gal of 50/50 mix.

Waiting for all of the engine, heater, etc to drain thru the radiator drain could take a long time. You may consider disconnecting the water pump inlet hose to help speed this along. (engine off... )

Unless its real contaminated, avoid the chemicals.

The SM recommends draining as much as you can out of it, filling it with water and drive it around, then drain again. Do this until the water comes out clean.

The manual also states to add the coolant/water only with the engine off as the thermostat has jiggle pins and filling it with the engine runninig will cause the jiggle pins to stay closed. I don't understand the reasonf for concern on this, but its a CAUTION in the manual. The jiggle pins allow air to escape from the coolant.
