When I was rebuilding the entire front end after my daughter totaled my truck I put in a rebuilt steering box and almost everything else new as well. Tie rods, ball joints, cross link etc. Now when I drive it it feels slow to respond. It doesn't wander exactly it just doesn't seem to repond as quick as it used to. When I was putting in the steering box I compared the old one, which had a bent shaft, and the new one. The new one seemed to be a lower gear ratio than the old one and at the time I thought "so what, it would just make it easier to steer". Now thinking about my slow steering I am wondering if the gear ratio of the new box actually is different than stock. If so it might explain some of the slow response. So my question is if somebody with a 1993 D250 2WD could carefully count how many turns it is from stop to stop, I would appreciate it. I just checked mine and it is 3 and 7/8 turns from one stop to the other. Thanks Todd

Eee gads... . I never even thought of that one... ... I don't know if it makes any difference between 2wd and 4wd, they should be the same. yes/no???

pb...

I don't know the exact count but there is definitely a difference between my sons '90 and my '93. By that I mean more turns on the '90!

my 92 w250 does about 3 and 2/5 from stop to stop. Felt a little loose though as if it took a 16th of a turn just to "start turning" though. I need to rebuild the front of the pump as the seal is busted. Should not make a difference here though.

According to the bible (FSM) the box should be a 13-16:1 variable ratio (D or W both use same box) and have a BF or XS code stamped on the upper adjustment cover. In the specification table there is also listed a 14:1 ratio box, it doesn't state what trucks these are used on, it just lists the codes; BH or NZ.
