I had seatcovers for the cloth seats on my prior truck and they were cheap but did their job. Saved me on more than one occasion and when I sold the truck they looked brand new.

I did a search here and seems like many with cloth seats have seat covers but not too many with leather.

Now I have leather and when I return from a day of saltwater fishing and hunting I am sometimes covered with interesting things. I want my seats to look as nice in 5 years or so as they do now.

I'd like waterproof covers but my understanding is that leather needs to breath, but maybe I'm wrong on that. I looked at the covers from sheepskin express and they look nice but are not waterproof. I have kids too who are not always careful.

Anyone have any recommendations???

I don't have seat covers on my leather seats. I don't believe in seat covers because I hate the thought of sending my truck to the junk yard with brand new seats. Having said that, I do keep two very large towels in the storage under the back seat to use in case me or someone else are very dirty. You can wash leather with a damp cloth and mild soap you know.

Got a good laugh about sending the truck to the junk yard with new seats. . :D

Have you been talking to my wife because she says the same thing about leather as you... lol :-laf :p

It really bugs me when people spend good money on upgrades, then never really enjoy them. Why buy the leather seats if you just are going to toss covers on them anyway? My dad was that way about air conditioning in a car. He would buy it, then never use it because it used more gas to run the AC than to not run it. What?... . Like maybe 3 cents a week??? That was back when gas cost 30cents a gallon too. So maybe that's it, people who pay for leather seats and then cover them up are planning to resale the truck?

Anyways, I'm also interested as to why someone would buy leather seats and then throw covers on them. I will toss a beach towel over mine if I am especially muddy, but more likely, I would change into the clean clothes I carry with me under the back seat, a set of oversized cover-alls.

so you can get the dual climate control and heated butt warmer!! other than that I would have bought cloth seats and yes I have seat covers on both trucks and they are both leather.

I figure it is much better for me to enjoy the leathers seats than to cover them and then later when and if I sell it, for the new owner to enjoy the leather seats

I cannot stand leather seats. Hot in the summer and cold in the winter. I wanted separate temp controls but bought the SLT to prevent buying Leather seats.

I have the leather seats in my truck. I ended up with leather/heated seats since that was the only way at the time to get a power passenger seat, which was a requirement for the truck purchase :) . Depending on what I am doing, I may use seat covers or not. I have sheepskin ones on the truck right now and really like them. Having the heated seats under the sheepskin works pretty well.

In a wet/muddy/dirty environment, the covers make sense to me because they can be taken off the truck to be cleaned.

just one perspective.

I wouldn't worry about the seats that much.

The driver and right side passenger seats have the leather

on them. It is about 1' wide. Everything else is Vinyl.

Back seats are all vinyl. So really you (and I) have a Vinyl

interior, with leather inserts... .

If it is a leather interior, wouldn't you think that at least 51% of the

seating surfaces should be leather... . ???

I keep a container of Meguiars Leather Conditioner wipes under the

seat anyways...

I take a couple of trash bags with me if I'm gonna be dirty when I get back in the truck. It works for cheap short term protection. I figure if I paid for the leather, I better be the one to enjoy it :)

I also do the meguiars leather treatment every month or two. It keeps the seats looking good and smells nice too

I truely enjoy my leather seats, paid for em and by golly I'm gonna use them. But for when I'm real dirty, I do have two beach towels that I had the wifey sew a pocket on one end to hook over the head rest, that keeps the darn thing from sliding down behind you. I keep them rolled up under the back seat.

Appreciate the replies so far and have enjoyed the different points of view. . sort of what I was looking for.

I got the Laramie package because I found that on my last truck I wished I had just bought the top of the line truck. I have found that I like all the silly gizmos that come with it.

I have to admit that I don't think that not sitting directly on the leather is not enjoying having it. If the seat has good cushions and is comfortable then that is what matters and I just like to keep my interior looking nice. Leather is easier to take care of though I will say that.

I too ended up with Leather because I had to take them to get dual climate/heated seats/power passenger seat. I had an 03 SLT with cloth bench seat before this and they were WAY more comfortable. The leather seats are, literally, a pain in the butt. I didn't realize how bad they were until I sat in a friends new Expedition yesterday. His, with leather, were really comfortable. I'm considering sheepskins or, since I found out the leather covers come loose pretty easy underneath, adding or replacing some softer foam in the seatng area.

I just keep a towel for really dirty days but the leather is easier to clean then cloth anyway. (reason I got "leather")

I would get a seat cover years down the line when the seats are beatup and need the cover to hold them together

I love my leather seat too! Every new vehicle I have ever owned has had them. Now with that being said..... I just broke down and bought some VERY nice Mopar seat covers for the front seats. :( I did it for two reasons. I have a three year old son who is constantly putting his feat on my seat, because the quad cab is just too small (For people in the back seat... LOL!). That is one thing I miss about my Ford SD Crew Cab. Second, I noticed that my drivers side seat is starting to show some premature wear and tear. Where the leather and the suede insert meets, my pants are starting to frey the suede! I pisses me off too. While still under warranty I asked the dealership to address the issue..... and we all know DC sucks D!CK. So to preserve my baby I broke down and bought the nicest covers I could find.

Note: I use them about 75% of the time. When I take them out to wash them and clean the truck, I'm usually too lazy to put them back in right away ;)

I purchased my 06 Megacab with cloth. My job sent me to Oklahoma City where I had leatherseats.com install premium monogramped 2 tone leather. Cost 1200 $. Very pleased with results. I use a kiwi lotion on all my smooth leather. After that, my 3 yr old found a permanant marker for art work on my sectional sofa. The kiwi lotion cleaned it off nicely. A cobler sold me on the kiwi after I purchased a used vette with a very dried out shift boot. It took a few weeks, but softened up nice.

i have leather because cloth seats soak up too much smell, and i put in a vinyl floor, because you cant get vinyl seats with power windows and locks, do me a favor and buy you some cabelas waterproof seat covers, they're just laminated canvas, but they work... i've had them on 4 of my personal trucks since '98 and we have them on 10 other trucks at work, but my seats look great after 200k miles, 3 of them have had leather so far, these covers keep you from ripping the nice seats (from wearing a clip knife, etc. ), and are waterproof (my wet dogs ride on them all the time), and easy enough to take on and off in seconds and are machine washable and only $20, they help you slide in and out of the truck if it is tall also, if you actually work out of your truck, believe me... . worth every penny!
