Receiver loose!!!

i have a 3500 srw quad cab w/ 6' bed and 4wheel drive, the bumper wieght rating is 23,600 from dodge, what would be my 5th wheel rating?

I don't think that is the bumper weight rating, but it could be your GCVW.

That is the most you should weigh truck and trailer combined.

We have an 04 that for the first 160K miles we owned it, towed a trailer that often went to 22K lbs... With an exhaust brake and power disc brakes on the trailer we towed it around the pacific northwest with no problems as long as you didn't mind taking some time going up the hills...

An '04. 5 would have a GCWR of 23,000lbs, which as JCasper said is the total allowed weight of truck & trailer.

My SRW weighs in at about 7,500 lbs with me and the 5er hitch, so that leaves 15. 5k for trailer, other passengers, and gear. However, that also only leaves 2. 5k for trailer pin weight, passengers, and gear before the trucks GVWR of 10k is exceeded.

5er pin weight should be around 20%, so at best (no other passengers or gear) you would be looking at 12,500 for the trailer. Bumper pulls on factory hitch are only rated to 12,000lbs WITH a weight distribution hitch.

your 5th wheel rating is the trailers GVWR which is total 5er weight but the 5er pin weight is part of the rating also. Your truck has to pull the load and carry the pin weight. Your 3500 SRW has a 6400 RAWR with matching tire caps. Your trucks empty rear axle weight is approx 2900-3000 lbs which leaves 3400-3500 lbs for a payload. Figure your own pin weight from that number.

Dodge gives the 3500 DRW a 9350 RAWR and it has over 5500 lbs for a payload for those big 5ers/GN's pin weights.
