Another update again....for those that may actually care :D
341,914 miles
851.54 gallons
$2,462.01 dollars
401.52 avg mpg of DEF
$2.891 average cost per gallon
$0.0072006 cost per mile
$7.20 per 1,000 miles
33,651.6 gallons and $84,709.21 of #2 has been consumed....and the DEF rate is 2.5304%.
Lifetime #2 mpg is 10.15 mpg.
All of the above DEF was purchased bulk at the pump.

Revenue Miles was 55% ?

yeah.... I am in the 600s now while empty (mixed use and some towing) and as low as 300 under heavy towing / load (100% towing at 24k).. I only fill at the bulk pumps and always at least 4gal so never had a scenario where I was truck only to state that mileage. 22k miles now

13.2 MPG lifetime.... Mixed use but last summer was about 6k miles of 100% towing out west. Like above, I rarely see more than about 16-17 and enjoy every drive... FWIW, my 04 was about the same mileage.

I am up to 7900 miles on the '22, so I thought I would revive this thread.

She is a bit thirstier than the '18 was, even accounting for the added towing percentage. I did expect that thou based on the reviews.

It looks like I'm around ~350 mpg towing and ~700 mpg empty. Both of those numbers are 140% more DEF usage than the ‘18, so at least it's consistent.

At the end of the day DEF is cheap and it reduces the use of EGR, so zero complaints from me on the added usage.

Keeping this one alive.

The truck seems to be using a little less DEF as it gets some miles on it, mainly when towing. I'm down to 2.49% DEF:Diesel with about 60% towing on a tank from 2.86% DEF:Diesel, slightly better than 400 mpg towing. Empty is holding right around 700 mpg.

My last 3 fill-ups combined

Those are respectable numbers. Using my company's assigned-to-me 2020 3500 Cummins, I get about those numbers, maybe a little more on the empty side, but about the same.

I'm also not a lead foot. I treat my boss' equipment with respect.

What is more interesting is my 2020 EcoD only gets 1000 mpg empty per gallon of DEF.

About 800 mpg on an engine twice the size of an EcoD is spectacular.

Just got back from 1 month vacation pulling 14k 5er. Crack over 3000 mi. used about 10 gallons DEF

Dang, that's some DEF usage. Was that 10 gallons with jugs or a pump? What was your diesel economy?

Lowest tank I had on my 2018 was 483 mpg.

I commented on this a few years ago, and will update what I said then. Currently I have 132485 miles on my 2014, and in that time I have added 90 gallons of DEF, so that is roughly 1500 MPG. Since I retired and moved up from a travel trailer to a small motorhome, the pickup is seldom used for towing, just running around the metroplex with a run to west Texas from time-2-time. In that same time I have burned 7864 gallons of fuel for a little better than 17 MPG.

I wonder if your Y43 recall will change anything, DEF or fuel related?

I kept track of my DEF for the first year.

15,632 miles, 416.85 MPG. Not many empty miles.

Brockman is running 329 mpg for 88k miles, pre recall.

Lowest I've seen was 285 mpg... of course I was netting 8.5 mpg diesel out in WY/SD.

Head winds and heavy 5er can drop that FE.

Impressive. I broke 1000 a few times on my 18, and 1100 once.

I doubt I see anything different after Y43. It’s a DPF health sensor. So far it’s been a benign recall.

Last I talked to Brockman he hadn’t seen any change from Y43 either.

I haven’t seen many side to side comparisons, but I suspect the SO will use the most DEF of the 3 engines since it has the highest compression ratio. The C&C uses the SO piston, but it’s compression is listed the same as an HO.. I haven’t yet figured out how they are so different with the same piston.

Yeah, the 19+ motors are DEF thirsty. Nothing wrong with that thou, they use less EGR.
