How much does an ATV weigh?

Thanks, TDR Staff

Driving to work this morning, a 4 foot snake surprised me in the car!

Now here's an odd request

Thinking about getting Dad some folding ramps for Father's Day to load his four-wheeler with instead of the 120 lb bridge planks he uses now. I see them advertised as rated for 1200 lbs, or rated for 1500 lbs, etc. (the ramps, not the bridge planks :D)

I don't have one or ride one much, so I have no idea what one of these things weighs. All I know about it is that it is a Honda, and Mom thinks it is a Rancher model with a 400 engine. Would the 1200 # ramps be enough, ordoes he need the 1500 # ? Money is a bit of an issue, but if you guys say I need the expensive heavy duty ones, that is what I will get. I am going to try to get my sister to go halfsies with me.

What prices are you paying for them? Tractor Supply has some advertised now, 1500# for $130. Is this a good price?

Thanks for your help.

Rad,

The 1200# will be more than enough. The most popular ones we sell are rated at 1000# and we've only had one returned for bending. I sold it to Fred Miller, at the time he was an OT for the Titans. He weighs 320 pounds. His ATV weighed in at @600 lbs, plus @50 lbs. of mud and all his hunting gear. He hit the ramp a little too fast because of the mud. :-laf

The company that makes the ramps gave him a new one. They sell for $130.

Here are the ones I have. 1000 lbs for the pair. Harbor Freight for $60. 00. I use them to load into trailers but never tried them to load into the pickup truck bed.
My Polaris is heaver them most ATV's plus add my 230 and I might be pushing 1000 lbs, plus I don't want to bend the tail gate or bust a tailgate strap.

If I did it again, I think I would get this set A little less chance of them moving on me.

I believe most ATV's weigh between 600 and 700 lbs. So add weight of rider and accessories and 1000 is likely ok, but marginal.

Thanks guys!!! That helps a bunch. Now I have to start working on getting my sister to split with me. Wish me luck!

Thanks again
