Engine/Transmission (1998.5 - 2002) How Much is Too Much

How much pressure is to much for the lift pump to put out to the Injection Pump? New lift is putting out about 18psi.

I've heard the VPs don't like more than 22. 5# I'm running right at 24 by the in cab gage and right at 22 +/- with a mechanical when I dialed in the pressure regulator. I NEVER see below 20# regardless of GO pedal position, unless it's filter change time.

Sound like you got a good lift pump. 14 to 16 psi is normal.

It's a Carter I've had for several years I don't know the model #. I finally put it on when the last one died. Thanks for the replies. I was afraid I might damage the IJ with to much input pressure.

sounds fine.
my 99 has 18lbs for 2 years now, on a reloco kit to the frame rail, did a new lp at the same time.

I remember reading that someone on here , years ago played with max pressure, and I think they started having a problem with the vp44 at 25lbs and more.
I forget which part became a problem.
