Shafts are the same size, convertor and input shaft have another seal, both carriers are different(I think eachone has an extra pinion and one is changed to steel from aluminum), extra clutch in the front clutch, more clutches inthe OD section, pump has a little more volume, valve body is different more line pressure, and I think capable of 2nd gear lockup. There are more changes but I can't remember them all

Thanks for the followup, but I was talking about your reply that the convertors are different. You listed some changes of the transmission, but the question remains... what exactly is different with the converters? I'm just wondering because everyone I've talked to has said they're the same, although it wouldn't surprise me if there were a few minor changes just to adapt to the 48RE changes, but overall it's still the same major components from what I've heard... and it sure doesn't provide any more torque transfer than my 47's TC did.

they put a seal on the input shaft and a mating surface in the converter to help eliminate convertor drain back. The converter will not hold anymore power, in 05 the trans is much smarter and i think this will help the converter not slip as much. The 48re in 03 and above is a little smarter as well. When i say smarter i'm refering to the PCM. If you are towing heavy with extra power, you still need to stick a triple disk in front of it and call it good.
