How Many of us have been Impatient at a STUPID LIGHT?????

Seat belts are not as confining as wheelchairs

Now that the 3rd gen trucks are even quieter with the intorduction of the Cummins 600, it's time to ask,

How much noise do you want your truck to make?

With 25k miles on the clock, my '03 standard output is starting to get noisy. Still quiet compared to the PSD since PI was turned off and way quieter than the 2nd gens but I had to shut the truck off in a drive through last week that I'd been through many times since the truck was new. I thought maybe it was just me. After over twenty years of owning diesels, the novelty has worn off. I'm ready for quiet as a Lexus.

Used to run straight-piped and got tired of it... it was just too loud, and there are those times that I like to sneak around (not that it's easy, but it's alot easier w/ muffler on there).

Also, I think Rip's 4" sounds better at WOT than a straight-pipe. When under load, and/or light acell it sounds just like a big-rig and gets you the looks you're looking for.

Am looking for more quiet in the cab though... will be doing sound-deadening and maybe TAG soon. Outside is another story... I don't mind if it sets off car-alarms (get 1 or 2 a week as is) but either way is good for me.

It's really fun to pull up along side those ricers that have the radio up too loud and they shut the windows because of the noise and smell:D

i myself would like the best of both worlds... nice and quiet [like a lexus] for hwy crusing and commuting to/from work. now, when i want to play, i'd like it to make some noise, maybe not to the point of setting car alarms off, but close there :-laf

Honestly - there wasn't a category for me to vote. I like my 2nd Gen truck and the noise it creates, although I'm wanting to reduce some of that noise it does create, but still have some of that wonderful noise. So I would like to have a new category, "A quieter 2nd Gen, but noiser than the 3rd gen"

At 13K mine is starting to get louder. I'd love this power hooked up to the silence of a car.

I didn't notice tag make it any quieter; I added it at the same time as my AFE and if anything it got louder.

I set off an alarm the other day on a chevy pickup, all I did was start mine, wasn't the exhaust either.

I like my second gen and the noise is perfect. I would have bought a 3rd gen but way to quit for me, thats why I will keep my 2nd gen forever and ever.

Its a diesel its supposed to make noise.

Long live the 2nd gen trucks. Oo. :D :) :D Oo.

I have an '03, but I love that sweet 24v sound! On the other hand, I prefer a nice quiet cabin (I've heard the 24v's are louder in the cabin).

love my 04. 0 right where it's at.

just enough noise when cold to make sure the neighbors know i am leaving. quiet enough to hear the turbo at almost all other times.

Had my fill of obnoxiously loud cars in High School. Best mod I made to my Jeep was a legit dual exhaust with the pipes exiting at the back corners - it had fenderwell exit headers an exited right under the doors.

Of course, I don't believe 'loud pipes save lives' either.

Louder the better, gonna be deaf by the time I'm 25. Big fan of the 5" straight pipe but its hard to beat the sound of 4" straight on a first gen.

I like what Cummins did for the noise level on the Gen 3s. FWIW, I think the 4. 5s are really no quieter than the 03s. A friend just bought one, nice but not quieter. Not sure why they put the pad on the hood.

With over 66K on the ticker I'm still happy with my straight. It was straight a week after I bought the truck new. I went to 5 inch last october and wow, what a difference in sound. The resonance isn't too bad either. And I do set off car alarms, and usually drive around the block and set them off again:D

Since it is election day I voted. Quiet as a Lexus. I couldn't stand the sound of the older Dodges and I would not have bought mine if it were not so quiet. Are the new 600's much quieter than my '04? I may have to buy one of those.
