Basing it on my speed calculator with 3200 rpm 4. 10 gears and 33 inch tires are as follows:

4th Low: 20. 39 mph

5th low: 28. 34 mph

2nd High: 22. 81 mph

Dieselminded has put my spread sheet on his web site and you can change the gears rpm and tire size and it will calculate the spead. See it Here

Dunno about the diesels, when we start trying to run high side of the transfer case in a gasser, stuff gets broke between the transmission and transfer case. I've seen lots of guys break transmission parts or the coupler between the two pulling in high side, but never break anything on low side. You're making the transmission do the gear reduction, and it breaks behind or in the transmission, but if you move the big gear reduction to the transfer case, breakage is less.

Now this is with old NP435 4 spds, 205 transfer cases, and big block power. Not quite the same as the diesels.

Nick,

Are you running the EEP heavy duty mainshaft?

P. S. I pulled in 2nd HI tonight twice. First was 293', second hook was 298' I shut it off before I hit the mound (too early). I ended up with 2nd place because I clutched it! :-laf :{

2 hi with 5 speeds eats them, its like Russian Roulette.

To run that big of gear Justin, properly, you would need twins to give you the low end grunt, and then still probably have to drop tire size, or gear ratio. A set of 5:13s would work nicely.

On the right track, zinging a set of 235s, might surprise you.

i have a reverser and a drop box. knock on wood mike and i haven't broken anything all year.

OK, I'm a little lost now, am I the only Mike in this thread? What do you mean a "reverser"? Drop box I think I understand.

Michael

i was talking about mike rhodes. sorry mike. a reverser is your "transmission". it only has a 1:1 forward and a 1:1 reverse. so you are in direct drive at all times. a drop box is kind of like a transfer case. except different. lol

That mound is there for a reason right?

I know I get out of my truck when it heads for the ditch! Sound like your having fun pulling!

Jim

This afternoon we did not have a mound, a couple of trucks ended up in the bean field! The flag man got nervous and red flagged me just before getting it out the gate. He apologized, discussed it with the sled operator and gave me a full pull. It was either that or I got a rehook. I took the full pull. Kind of a no brainer. :-laf

I hear ya Jim.

I was heading for the 4 foot mound at about 15mph and wanted to keep my front bumper! Thinking that I had a full pull, I shut her down about 1' too early  I had alot better speed the 2nd hook, the track had gotten alot better.

Oh well, I still came home with a check for $60 and I was really happy with the way the truck hooked the 2nd time. The guy that won drove up the mound.

You could have too if you hadn't bought that sissy Sport Bumper! :p :-laf :D

I was reallly surprised they made 300 a full pull, they should have made it 280, I guess they didint take in to account the longer wheelbase of the the trucks compared to the tractors and there relation to the sand pile. Or it just could have been to much Busch light for the track crew. That 6. 0 liter that won seems to do pretty decent, Ive seen him pull several times.
