How bad will the smoke be with a set of DDIII and an EZ? I know that with the Comp you can adjust low boost smoke an not with the EZ so I am wondering how bad it would be.

Thanks.

Bill, IMHO, the combo of stage 3 injectors and the EZ isn't bad in regards to smoke. I had BullyDog 3's in my truck with the EZ box for a short time and got used to the smoke control pretty quick, i. e. , low boost and heavy throttle will give you a thick cloud at takeoff, moderate throttle and building boost as you accelerate will give much less smoke. I also had the HX40 in when the 3's went in, so I had more turbo lag than you will with a HX35 (guessing here that you have a manual trans. ) There will be some instances, such as starting from a stop at the bottom of a hill, that you will have to put out some black smoke until you get up to speed, just no way around it. High elevations and hot weather seem to make the smoke much worse.

You can adjust the EZ for smoke control to certain extent via the jumpers within the box. Mine have always been left on the most aggressive setting and, to me, the smoke isn't bad even with the step 5 injectors. It boils down to what you are comfortable with. Maybe you could see them in action before you install a set in your truck ???

I am worried about smoke since I do a lot of around town driving.

I have been thinking about the Comp since it can be adjusted even more.

I have also thought about the injectors with no box but I know that with any power adder the itch will get worse and I will end up with a race truck before I am done.

you're going to want a box---you're going to have smoke unless you baby it---really it only smokes if you lean pretty hard into it and the boost isn't up ---I drive around 98% of the time with just the injectors and EZ and the smoke isn't bad at all---but if you punch it trying to accellerate from 10mph you're going to get some smoke----the best thing is you'll get used to it and know how to control it, so when you want to smoke some idiot out you can----chris

You wil have serious smoke if you have the HY35 turbo,to much IMO,if you have the hx35 you will smoke off boost, then it will cear up as the boost rises. You are going to have to drive it gently if you dont want smoke. I had just a comp, and stock injectors for a month,it was awesome,no smoke at all, just a slight haze at night in headlights, and as much power as an ez and dd3's. Buy the blue chip pump cover if your worried about tapping the wire,IMO the Edge comp is the best bang for the buck you can get,try it,then decide if you need injectors,I think you will be more than happy with it ,and not need more power, unless your a junkie.

Snowman, what is the blue chip pump cover. Tapping the injector wire is the one thing stopping me from an comp/ultimate fueling box. Do you have a pic or a link? Also I was under the impression that fuel with no boost was the main reason for smoke. If so wouldn't the smaller housing on an HY cause faster spool up, hence less smoke. At least that what I have been led to believe. Oo. Since I just installed the DD3 I haven't really had the chance to see the injectors with the HY on my truck yet because today was snowing and I am taking it easy untill my trans is done. :( But after the mods to the Trans... . :D Oo. Oo.

Chipstien,

The pump cover is a great thing. It makes it so that you do not have to pierce the wire. It replaces the wire cover on the pump. It has a connection that connects right at the pin on the harness and leave no marks.

I have not see any pictures of it but there may be some out there.

Check with Blue Chip.

The HY35 smokes a lot,im looking for a used HX 35 for my dad's 01,with dd2's and an ez it smokes 3x worse than my 00,with dd3's a,d the comp, the Hy cant move as much air as the hx,so more smoke

Ah, I see your point Snowman. Also, this pump cover is exactly what I have been looking for. :D Where there's a will, there's a way around the factory warantee. :)

HY didn't smoke to bad for me........

And I'm toting a lot of weight all the time. I had my waste gate restricted with a turnbuckle and spring setup and was able to get up to 32# of boost with it. Quick spool up too. Granted I could throw a cloud off boost leaving a light but not even enough to **** off the snail darter crowd around here. I went with the PDR HX-35 to help with the hotter air in the summer. So far it hasn't outperformed my HY much. Boost a little lower and EGT's the same. A little smoother in the mid power range though.

I will admit that the HY was out of it's efficiency range though as noted by the nice yellow color it turned from all the heat. Maybe I'll move up to DD3's now and move the DD2's over to the little womans truck. :D :D That way I can justify the cost of the new turbo.

Bill,

Put in the PEC and see how you like it. Then you can put in the injectors later. HVAC is almost local up in Halfmoon Bay and he'll sell you both at a great deal.

I would definitely get the PEC over the EZ because of . . MORE POWER and better adjustability. If you tow you will want the adjust on the fly. Plus you be able to darken the skies at a whim or set it to where there's not hardly any smoke at all no matter who's driving.

Garret,it sounds like your ready for a comp too,I would get the comp, sell the ez,and leave the dd11's for now. The comp is a much better bang than the dd111's. You'll gain only 20hp with dd111's,and you'lll gain about 70 with the comp, and the adjustablity is nice. Besides the 111's as great, but they caused both our trucks to stall and need reflashes, the 11's did not require reflashing, and dont stall in dad's 01. I had dd111's in his 01,I pulled them out,the smoke could stop traffic,it never cleared up,even under boost. so Nowel sent me 11's,much better now. The smoke was terrible with the 111's and an EZ,it stopped traffic, with 28 psi of boost,we never used a turnbuckle, something dont seem right about forcing the wastegateshut, i made up a spring and adapter hat gets him 28 psi. Those exact same injectors were put in my 2000 a month later, and they do not smoke at all under boost, smoke dont start until level 3 on the comp. I would call Nowel(HVAC) up,I got all my goodies from him, great service, products, and prices.
