Competition 2nd Gear High Range

I was in Redding this weekend and turned my best time of a 12. 64. I have 37x13. 50x17 Toyo MT with 4. 10 gears on my truck now and I was wondering what kind of times I could run with like some 31 or 33 street tires or a set of slicks. I saw 1 truck out there with 4 31x14x16 slicks I thought would be fun. I figure with just the weight difference I should pickup about . 15 the 37's weight close to 100 pounds a piece and if 100 pounds equals a tenth not to mention less rolling mass. I think I should be able to get in the 11's or is that unrealistic.

My dmax ran a best of 14. 1 on 39's. I dropped down to 33's, and it ran 13. 7's. . Then tried 35's, and it ran in the 13. 7-13. 9.

Harvey did not think 3. 53 gears and 37's would be good on the new transmission. :-laf

I would say somewhere around . 4 sounds right, who knows though, with cooler air temp than in redding and smaller tires you just might run an 11.

Hes changed out everything else on the truck so why not the gears?

I think going from a 37 to a stock sized tire could easily knock off a few tenths (. 2-. 3) if you can get traction and remember to use 4WD. :-laf

It takes some HP to turn a set of 37's, since this is my first truck I havent lifted yet and ran at least 35's on there is quite a bit of diffrence.

The funny thing was that my speed was 1 mph faster with the 39's than the smaller tires. . Slower ET, faster mph. . Kinda odd. .

I went from 3. 55s with a 35" tire running 14. 1 to 4:10s with the same tire running 14. 6.

I have since upgraded the injectors and now run 13. 5. I ask myself... how quick would it be if I were still running those 3. 55s?

It maybe that you need the higher gears to load the engine enough to build more torque. Think of what your transmission does out of lockup vs in lockup. Pulls harder due to your engine has a load. If i am off base then sratch the theory.
