How much will a Dana 70 take?

Does any have any idea how strong a Dana 70 is compared to the 80? How much muscle can I add without trouble while pulling 12,000lbs?

Larry, can not say much about the 80 as I run the Dana 70..... But the 70 is one stout unit. I pull 36,000lbs Everyday almost. After 300,000+ miles I had the rearend rebuilt. I work the piss out of this 92 but it keeps on going. HTH Mike

I suggest the Mag Hytec cover with its greater lube capacity and higher level in the diff to lube the outer bearings better. It also gives more room for lube to travel out there. I have seen more than one D70 with the outer axle bearings on the left side burned up. Also get a good lube for it, you might talk to Roy about it while you are talking to him for a cover.

Fully bombed engines will twist the input shaft off while truck pulling. Other than than it seems to be a good unit.
