With my current set up I can hit the 1450* to 1500* mark fairly easily. My current intake is a drop in K&N. How much would an aFe Megacannon or Scotty II help bring my EGT's down? If that doesn't do too much then is there anyone out there with a PDR cam with a factory HX-35? Did it help much in controlling EGT's? Any ideas would be appreciated. I need to bring EGT's down and am trying not to have to do an expensive turb upgrade for the PDR HX-40. Thanks for any help. Dshawhan

P. S. a TST PM3 is on the way. :D

would it help?

Well I used the mega canon and then went to the Scotty II and I couldn't see that much of an egt drop from a factory air box with a k&n. I think the way to drop them is to go to a larger exhaust housing or new turbo. Allot of people will say I dropped my egt’s by 200 going to the Scotty or mega canon but it really depends on what you have done to your truck and what your going to do with it. Shop around and think twice before spending your money it will help you out in the long run.

I was hitting 1400 to 1500 also, and was interested in the afe megacannon. Was told by a VERY reputable source (who has tested just about everything) that it would make essentially no difference in egt's. I wanted it anyway, and got it. He was right. Egt's still way up there. Last week I got a TST PwrMax 3, which added almost an additional 100 hp, and my boost went from 23 peak to about 42 peak. HOWEVER, my pyro gauge reads to 1600, and it pegs the meter when running wide open, making about 350 hp. I am now in the market for a PDR HX 40 and 4" exhaust, as I believe this is the only way to bring down the egt's.

By the way, you are going to LOVE your PwrMax 3! :D:D:D

egt's

From my experience with hx35/16 vs hx40/16, you will still peg the egt guage eventually. BUT, being able to stay on the smoke pedal longer certainly is worth something. I put a PDR ported head on my 12 valve when I changed to a PDR cam. I can bury my egt guage (1600). But all the way at the end of third gear, I'm at or below 1250. 1500 isn't till halfway through fourth at over 100 mph. The hx40/16 really woke up the truck from 1600 rpm and up. Go ahead and spend the $ for a PDR hx40. OR maybe go ahead and REALLY fuel it and get a PDR hx50.

I was at PDR a few weeks ago and rode in Piers truck, the 50 is VERY user friendly even at low rpm when towing a trailer. Pulls from low rpm with a minimum (hardly any) of smoke.

BUT, keep in mind, this was on Piers' 12 valve. Call them up, you'll get straight answers and won't be mislead (just poorer).

For what it's worth, I'm using an AFE type cone filter in a custom airbox fed by a 4x8 hole in the cowl and ducts from the fog light openings to the box.

No one thing will drastically lower egt's, but the combination of several proven changes all add up to more time on the smoke pedal before your better judgement tells you to lift.
