Since I have all new greaseable front end parts I have been greasing every oil change (10K). I got to thinking today that this might be bad and I should maybe do it sooner than that.

So my question is how often do you lube your greaseables???

Thanks,

Brian

Every 5,000 miles, plus jack it up to take the weight off of the ball joints before you grease them. :)

I've been doing the '07 every oil change (7500 miles or so). I couldn't tell you the last time the '04. 5 was greased. Well, I did the ball joints last fall so those were greased then. Maybe once a year or so on that truck.

with each oil change every 3-4k miles, it's easier to remember that way. change front axle lubricant at 15k intervals,

I have owned 3 Jeep Cherokees and a total of 5 CTD's. My 1990 W250 was new the rest were used.

Maintenance largely depends on where you live and how you operate it.

I live in Western Ma. and I grease my vehicles every 2~3k in the winter (1 month) and every oil change in the summer.

The reason for this schedule is because heat & cold tend to suck moisture into the joints and cause premature failure. Greasing is the only way to purge the moisture and lubricate the joint.

The first Gen's had a grease fitting on every u-joint and steering component with the exception of the flex joint on the steering box.

When I retired the truck in 2004 (230,000 miles+-) due to rust the running gear had orginal ball-joints & u-joints and were still good. I also tried different grease and found that Molly fortified grease worked better for me.

A vehicle that lives in dry climates requires much less maintaince.

The front end on the newer CTD's is of a marginal design and is prone to wearing out ball-joints so I would recommend frequent greasing to preserve your investment.

Where are the fitting's on the front end. I thought they were all sealed units with no fittings for a grease gun. I asked the dealership about doing a lube on the front end and they told me there were no zerk fittings... Some one set me straight. I have a 2006 2500 stock

There are no grease fittings other than the button fitting in the front driveline and the outer tie-rod ends when the truck is stock. A lot of us on here have already replaced our ball joints and axle u-joints with greaseable replacement parts. Oo.

I change my oil every 3,750. So, I lube the chassis and rotate the tires every other oil change (7,500 miles). Every second tire rotation also brings a full body lube with it (15,000). Every 15,000 also brings a full fluid download (both diffs and transfer case). 25,000 brings the transmission drain and filter change.

I never thought of putting the full body lube into rotation. Thanks

Brian

Glad to help Brian! I thought for sure I would get severely flamed with the 3,750 oil change :-laf . All of these items help me to sleep better at night!

I laugh my AZZ off when I read this, some spend every thing on fuel milage gains and then throw it all away and then a lot more with oil wasting practices like that.

I can't talk though I am wasting my Amsoil in a HUGE way by only running it to 10-15k miles.
