I'm shortly gonna lose the cat, but wanted to know how restrictive the factory muffler is? While crawling under my truck and looking at the exhaust system it looks as if there is one cat and two mufflers (one larger and one smaller one).

Here are my questions:

How restrictive is the factory muffler?

Are there two on my truck (one smaller one & a larger one)?

Dont know about the 06 but on my 03 when I changed to a Banks 30" muffler my EGTs dropped about 200 degrees, so yes if you dont mind the truck sounding a little better :-laf lose the muff

I would lose the muffler and the resonater behind the muffler. Leave the cat on for warranty or lose it if you are not concerned. My last truck an 05' CTD and now my new 07' CTD both mufflers came off shortly after purchasing them and turned the exhaust down right behind the cab. Sounds great and no DRONE! My EGTS went way down with losing about 9' of pipe and about 160 degrees of bends. BTW this is so easy to do and saves you so much $$$. You can do it right in your drive way with a cut off wheel or a sawzall and always have the option to replace it in the future back to stock. You can remove it all in one piece. The Megas have a Cat_____Muffler_____and then the Resonator,

I replaced the stocker with a Silent Might (REALLY QUIET) and noticed that the turbo spools up quicker and coasts down slower. This makes it nicer to drive around town, when I need to shift more, and would imply that there must be a fair amount of restriction in the stocker. The resonator is straight thru, so it doesn't hurt from a restriction point of view.
