my d: derive is full from my computer trying to do a self backup. since then i did a backup on a removable zip drive. does anyone who has a HP pavillion laptop know whats supposed to be in drive d. my drive is totally full100%! i keep getting a pop up reminder telling me to clean it out but i dont know what to remove. any help is appricated!..... james

Is your D:\ drive a second hard drive, or your CDRW drive?

If it is a second hard drive, then it is just data storage and you can use windows explorer to delete whatever you don't want. I am presuming that Windows is located on the C:\ drive. Most likely, you can just delete the self backup.

If it is your CDRW drive, just take the full CD out and replace it (If you want to) with a blank CDRW platter.

If its like my compaq D: is a partition on the one installed drive and it contains a back up of the original installation.

im almost 100% sure D: is a second hard drive. i only have 1 cdrw drive on my laptop and it's empty. i've tried to manually remove the stuff but it wont go away!

open up my computer and right click on the D:/ drive ans select properties, there should be a button about halfway down on the right side that says "disk cleanup" click that button and let it work. Since it sounds like you have never done that it will take a while to finish looking for stuff to have either compressed or deleted. Click all the block that have something in them EXCEPT the compress old files, it will take forever and make your computer slower. Next click on the more options tab and then the clean up under the system restore. click yes or ok on any boxes that come up and watch your drive size shrink.

Next, go to CCleaner - Downloading... and install that program. Its is free to use, they just ask for donations if you feel so inclined. Run that program and it will find a bunch of stuff to have deleted.

BOTH OF THESE STEPS ARE SAFE AND WILL NOT DELETE ANY FOLDERS/FILES/PICTURES OR ANYTHING THAT YOU HAVE CREATED. MOST OF WHAT IS DELETED ARE LOG FILES AND YOUR TEMP FOLDER.
