Wifes minivan, the struts on the front creak when the suspension is compressing a little bit, but really creaks when turning. From listening while the boy turns the wheels it sounds like it's coming from the upper mounting point of the strut where it mounts and rotates. I've tried spray lubricants with no luck at all.

Will I have to replace the whole strut to fix this? Or, can I just dismantle the top end some how and lube it up?

Thanks, Scott

My wife has a 97 with the same problem. Creaking, Cracking, Moan & groan. Sounds like an old man. No Offence to anyone. Aside from replacing the struts I don't know what to do. Anyone got any ideas?

If you think the struts are in good shape and you are sure the noise is coming from the top area of the struts, you can just replace the strut mounts.

I have purchased mounts from some aftermarket parts stores and did not like them. I like the original equipment ones as they come as one piece and the others I have seen don't come with all the parts that need to be replaced.

The mounts are a little pricey though. As always, you get what you pay for.

Another area of creaking/crunching noise when the suspension is jounced slightly (especially in colder weather) is the sway bar bushings.
