Forgive my ignorance, guys, but I'm looking to buy a 12-valve and I need to know how to determine if it has a 53 block. What model years were they produced? Also, is there any external evidence of a KDP fix or is that something I just have to take the seller's word for?

Thanks,

Late 97 and up to 2000. Crawl under the truck and look on the lower left front corner under the vacuum pump and above the pan mount rail. If it's a 53 the numbers will be there and they are a little over a inch tall. If the KDP has been pinned you can take the serpentine belt idler off and see the screw head in the case. If it's been tabed you will have to pull the front cover off.
