I've just installed a 12cm2 off of a 2nd Gen. It seems to leak boost at 25-28 psi. How do you guys with these housings keep them shut? Will welding the flap work?

Matt, the wastegate actuator should keep it shut if it's not hooked up to a boost line. I'm not sure that you should expect much more than 30 psi from a 12cm2.

Well, I had 25 psi with a 16 cm housing. 30 psi with way too much fuel. I've seen guys talking of 38 psi with a 12 cm housing. The wastegate isn't hooked up but it seems to want to open at around 28 or so psi. If I can get 25 psi in 3rd, I should be in the 30's in 4th and 5th. I think with fueling it is a matter of heat to get psi's.

You can just tack weld the wastegate shut on the outside - that's the way HX-40's come from Diesel Dynamics. If you just make a small tack weld, it will be easy to grind out later if needed.

TXRam,

Thanks. I just wasn't sure if the valve was going to make a good seal. Suppose I'll be cracking out the welder!

Hmmmmm, very interesting comment. When I bought my HX40 from Diesel Dynamics and had them install it at their shop in Vegas this past June, I asked them what they set the wastegate at, and was told they set it at 43 PSI. Although I have never been able to get more than 32 PSI even under full throttle on a dyno... ... .

Tom,

I heard that they quit doing this. I got mine a few months before you did - there was no wastegate set-up on it - Piers fixed me up with a wategate set-up for a great price for mine.
