How can I lock the doors and leave the truck running while getting the mail etc. ?? I always put the master lock steering lock bar on the wheel when leaving the truck idling, but I would feel a little better if I could also lock the doors.

Thanks

DB

my truck has the separate key and remote. I put on one of them quick release deals and just separate the remote (with keys to the house and other various things). that way I can lock the doors with it running.

Ditto - just use your factory LOCK / UNLOCK key fob. I keep mine on my redneck keychain clipped to a belt loop. One item of note - locking or unlocking the truck in this manner will not blip the lights - which is kinda cool when you think about it.

I guess it won't chirp the horn either but I've had my lock-the-truck-chirp-the-horn thing disabled for years now. Nothing says, "I'm a soccer mommy" like a chirping lock horn deally.

I always keep an unchipped key for the truck in my pocket with my house keys. Since the key I had made at Home Depot does not have the chip in it, it will not start the truck, but it will unlock the doors. I keep an extra chipped key hidden inside the truck.

I do the same thing as Grizzly. I have to lock each door manually(push the lock knob down) as the doors won't lock with the key in the ignition otherwise. Just be sure you have the extra key in your pocket. :) bg

Engine Running, close the doors, and they LOCKED on THEIR OWN!!!

I have a question about this...

Came back from a day of sledding, and started the truck, closed the

door, went to the other side of the truck, opened the door, got out my

gear, and closed it.

Changed out of my wet clothes, and went to open the door, and it was locked...

How does that happen?!?!?!

I can't duplicate how that happened. I know that the doors lock when you approach a certain speed, didnt think they do it when the truck is standing still.

$79. 00 later, the towtruck driver shows up at the end of the logging road... 12km in!!

Guess I should put a hide a key on the truck.

Any ideas?

That would happen to my 95, but before it ever happened, I had two extra keys made, not chipped in 95. I hid one under the truck and the second went in my pocket with my house keys. The first time my son drove my truck he stepped out of the truck while the engine was running and the doors locked. He had to get under the truck to get the spare hidden key. :)

I have a shut-down timer. I can set 1 to 5 minutes. Beyond 5 minutes I can add 10 min. increments. Just set it and take the keys with me. If someone should happen to break in, the truck will stop running as soon as they touch the brakes.

I too always carry a spare "unchipped" key in my pocket with my house and shop door keys. The "unchipped" key will also lock all the doors. If I manualy lock the closed driver's door with the "unchipped" key and turn the key to the lock position twice, all the doors will lock with the engine running.

I carry the unchipped key on my house key ring also but I didn't know that you could lock all by going to the lock position twice. I wish the key and lock fob combo wasn't so ungainly or that it was in two separate parts (a key and a fob) I wonder if Dodge might have a lock fob that doesn't have the key on it? (Geno's, are you listening??) Thanks to you all for the information.

I have never carried my keys with me. Ever since the remote thing (FOB?) back in the 90's, I have always left my keys in my truck and carried my remote.

I don't think I've ever taken my keys out of the ignition, or locked my truck at home. I don't lock the doors on my house either :-laf
