I was wondering what you guys would recommend for a 2001 stock HO 6 speed to equal the power levels of the 06 Cummins and have equal reliability also???

Well, here's what I was thinking anyway. A 4" exhaust, air intake system, and a set of 275 injectors. I think this would be the most RELIABLE small power upgrade. I really don't like the idea of a fueling/timing box. What do you think?

Mine is set up as a towing rig and dynos at 347/762 at the rear wheels. If one assumes a low 15% for drivetrain losses, that's equivalent to 408/896 at the flywheel. Really, the only "power adding" mods are the EZ and the DD2 injectors.

With today's technology, cleaner EDM injectors and "Smarter" software tools are available than when I set my truck up years ago. Running at these power levels and spending 95% of its life towing our heavy 5th wheel (see signature), my truck has never been back to the dealer for anything and is still on its original LP and VP44. Admittedly, I could use more turbo and do have to pay attention to EGT's, but I'm just suggesting that the 2nd generation HO can run reliably at my power levels.

Now, the stock clutch is another matter. Mine was fine with the EZ alone, but it slipped within hours after installing the DD2s in combination with the EZ.

My truck is set up almost exactly like Rusty's truck except that I have 275 injectors instead of the DD2's. "Now, the stock clutch is another matter. My truck dyno'd 311hp at the rear wheels with this combination. I've been pulling a TT with this truck since new, and it's been very reliable. One had one lift pump die at 40k miles. I've driven my friend's stock '04 (325hp) that is also a 6 speed, and mine will flat out dust it.

The only thing holding you back is $$$ and wifey (in some cases anyway), Bombs away!!!

I bought a 2001 6 months ago. Mine is an auto with 3. 55. . Ive added edge ez. and 4" exhaust. It is not quite enough I think, so I'm putting 275 injectors next week. I will probably have it dynoed after that to see were I am at. These mods so far have added 4 miles to my mpg empty ,I do limited hauling. Have fun!

2001 HO 6sp, Bully Dog III's, Comp with Wire tapped, >100k on this combination, 450hp/980t Flat towing 35ft TT, no EGT problems, hills I have to watch, of course the backhoe is fun. The nice thing about the boxes, they are adjustable. Injectors aren't, of course with 275's that won't be a problem. Clutch handled the III's fairly well, with the box not a chance, would slip the clutch at 75mph. So more money went in, SB FE.

Money, Money, Money... ... ... That is the slippery slope, remember if you do this, you will have to do that. So plan ahead. Decide what you want now, and plan for that level, I suggest you drive someone else's truck to decide your desired power level. Remember, getting the power is easy... . getting it to the road, and keeping it cool are what really cost. If I drive like granny I can still get ~21mpg.

You need more gauges, I have three on the left and one on the column.

I for one would be interested in seeing your results as I have the same setup as you do and am also thinking of adding the 275's.

I think you are pushing the envelope, I don't know what an unmodified auto will take, but if I remember correctly some of the auto guys have said its only about 80hp more than stock.

My 2001 auto slipped with just the EZ box while towing my old TT. I fixed all of that with the mods in my signature.

no power for one mile

Hi, I have friend with a 2001 same as mine. He has a Edge EZ and a four inch exhaust with a K&N filter. Sometimes maybe one out of ten. When he starts it cold it wont excellerate over 30 mph for about the first mile and then everything goes back to normal after that. No power, no raise in RPM's so nothing is slipping. Just wont take the fuel for the first mile. Any help on this one would be great.

ok guys i am kinda new to this site, i have been over on DTR for awhile and really like this one. we have had a number of guys ask this one and had a number of guys do one simple combo. ok, a stock 01 should dyno around 200 + or - a few at the wheels. an 06 should dyno around 280+ or-. the best combo that we have found is just an intake system and a smarty. we have had a number dyno with this setup and they average about 280 at the wheels with this combo . hope this helps.
