I got a 12v that Ill trade you for. You can get all the smoke you want. :p

from what i understand d3's smoke nicely. this is coming from a post along time ago. do a search. no going to smoke like a 12v though!

No offense, but I've never seen a dumber post in my life. Why on earth you'd want to increase smoke and pollution for no reason, is beyond me. I can see accepting the additional smoke the bigger injectors and mods etc put out, but to want smoke just for the sake of it... . ridiculous:rolleyes: Big smoky exhausts are one of the main things that give diesels a bad reputation, cause people not to buy them, which hurts us all. Less diesel market share means less aftermarket parts, less trained techs, less diesel fuel availability, etc, etc.

LOL no it's not. Smoke is synonymous with someone injecting more than the needed amount of diesel.

Look at the numbers in my sig.

All with NO smoke. Not that I care either way, but on the 03's smoke and power don't go hand in hand.

Sooner or later I'm hoping someone who knows more about this new injection system will speak up and give us all the correct reason why they don't smoke.

I am going to install a fueling box on a 03 in the next few days good for 100 hp. I will get back with any smoke stories I might have later. Fingers are crossed. Oo.

Bog it and she will belch. ;)

I'm thinking a good mixture of oil in the fuel tank will get you some smoke :D

I guess that would put you even with a Ford ;)

Oh, I stand corrected.

Smoke is historically synonymous with Power in the Diesel world.

I drive my truck smokeless most of the time too. BUT I like having the option of dumping soot when I WANT to. Maybe in 10-15 years when I tire of playing with VP44's and P7100's I'll look at one of them newfangled common rail trucks.

Common Rail, isn't that a bird?:-laf

First of all black smoke looks cool. No doubt. However ... ...

SMOKE=LOST HORSEPOWER

Smoke means not burning efficently.

Smoke means bad image for diesels.

Smoke means engine is going to run much hotter. (rich running diesels run hot and lean diesel engines run cool, just the opposite of gasoline engines)

Smoke means not enough air in the mixture. (hence the reason for lost horsepower. If enough air was added to the mixture to get no more smoke think of the power you all would be making)

I say these things because I drive a 2000 Peterbilt with a 600HP CAT. No smoke at all under any conditions. I can lug her down to about 1100RPM's before making the downshift and my EGT's will climb to around 1000F and stay there.

Nothing looks more cool than seeing nothing but 2 giant trails of immense heat pouring out of my dual 8" straight pipes with no smoke.

I also say these things are fact because I am ASE certified Master Heavy Truck Technician.

I will bet if I could get enough air to burn the unburnt fuel coming out of my stacks, the engine would be dripping all over the pavement. And thats HOT!:--)

The guys that build tractor pulling diesel motors will tell you that leaning those out too much will burn holes in pistons just the same. They dump so much diesel into them that it plus water helps cool the combustion chamber.
