How to measure ex. housing

What are the points to measure a ex. housing to determine the actual cfm 'it' is? I understand that you're measuring volume, but there must be certain points in which it should be measured by to determine its actual volume?

Russell, I belive it's the area of the slot that the exhaust passes through as it is directed at the trubine wheel. On a 12 cm2 holset it's 24cm in circumference x . 5cm wide=12 cm. The 14 cm2 housing has a slot thats just over . 58cm wide.

Look in the ports on the flange where it bolts up. The number are in there on a Holset.
