A post I ran across here offered to help someone memorize their mirror setting for the reverse feature, but I never found any information on how to do it. BTW, the printed manual that came with my truck is one of the worst manuals I have ever seen. There are two or three times as many pages on how to operate the stereo than how to operate the truck. There is a reference to a DVD, but since I bought my truck used, I don't have one.

Questions:
1. How many different memory settings are there for each driver/key number (1,2). I have the trailer mirrors, so there are really four separate conditions - horizontal forward, horizontal reverse, vertical forward and vertical reverse. Is there any way around having to set the mirror memory each time I switch from horizontal to vertical?
2. If there is a way to memorize the backup settings, what is it? I can only get one set of mirror positions, regardless of whether I am backing up or going forward.

My dealer service rep says that reverse can not be programmed, it is a fixed offset from the forward settings, but someone on here gave me hope that was not correct. The standard offset doesn't show me what I want to see (the curb).

Thanks,

Al

The reverse tilt is set in the radio. There are only two memory settings, 1 and 2 and they can be set for each fob so you need to ID each fob so you don't grab the wife's and have the wrong settings. I suppose the reverse feature would be nice if saved to the memory position, but I personally hate it and never have it turned on.

Thanks sag2,

I'll look for that in my radio settings. That would be a good thing to include in the manual, I would think. I couldn't find how to remove the lens cap on the under hood light, or where the low and full level marks were on the radiator expansion tank, either. Dealer helped with both of those, but had no clue on the reverse mirror tilt.

No adjustment in the radio

All I can find in the radio is the ability to turn the tilt on and off. I am looking for a way to set the amount of tilt. I understood another post on here to say that the amount of tilt was programmable and settable into the memory. That is the capability I am looking for.

There is no adjustment for reverse, just off and on.

When the "Tilt Mirrors In Reverse" feature has been activated AND the truck is in reverse (i.e.: with the mirrors automatically tilted down), then their positions can be adjusted as usual by using the power mirror controls. The tilted down mirror positions are indeed memorized just like regular mirror positions are along with driver seat position memory (if equipped). I've verified this on my truck.

From the owners manual:

Tilt Mirrors In Reverse — If Equipped

Tilt Mirrors in Reverse provides automatic outside mirror positioning which will aid the driver’s view of the ground rearward of the front doors. The outside mirrors will move slightly downward from the present position when the vehicle is shifted into REVERSE. The outside mirrors will then return to the original position when the vehicle is shifted out of the REVERSE position. Each stored memory setting will have an associated Tilt Mirrors in Reverse position.

NOTE: The Tilt Mirrors in Reverse feature is not turned on when delivered from the factory.

Driving a dually, personally I find the mirror tilt down feature very useful when backing into confined or marked parking areas. I have the mirrors adjusted so that I can see the outside edges of the rear dual tires. I can see the rest of the truck's side areas using the spot mirrors and I can see the area behind the truck using the excellent tailgate backup camera.

I only wish I had a camera and proximity sensors on the front of the truck.... and maybe a radar altimeter too. :)

If I had that I would not have taken out a fire hydrate on 2014 Laramie
EDIT:The cats out of the bag now.

Thanks John. I'll have to try this again. When i tried it, it seemed that the amount of tilt wasnt changed in the memory if i adjusted the mirrors down more while in reverse and went back to drive before hitting save. If i hit save while in reverse it saved that position as the primary position, i.e. the position while in drive. I'll try it again.

Al,

Despite what the manual says, my truck doesn't seem to be able to save a customized "Tilt Mirrors in Reverse" position either...

With the truck in reverse, I've tried saving customized mirror positions both with and without my foot on the service brake... no luck. Apparently the seat and Tilt Mirrors in Reverse position can't be saved with the transmission in reverse (i.e.: I can't get the position saved notice on the EVIC). When I move the transmission out of reverse to try and save the position, the mirrors return to their normal position and the customized Tilt Mirrors in Reverse position is immediately forgotten, so that doesn't work either.

At this point I can't figure it out!

Now I feel bad, there were plenty of people video taping my event I was to embaressed to look. I did 7K worth of damage, put a dime size dent in the front bumber and tore the suspension all to hell.

Most of the "abrasion" on mine buffed out. There's a couple of small creases that are present, but one really has to look for them. I'll bet a good PDR guy could remove them. For the time being---I can live with it. If, in the future, I decide I can't---I'll have it repaired and have part or all of the bedside painted. #ad
