I have 5ea Michelin LTX AS 265x70r17 tires... brand new from my 06 Dodge. I have had some interest and am wondering if anyone has shipped tires UPS or other lately.

I need to know what restrictions there might be and how they should be configured... boxed, banded, etc... . and what cost should I expect. I know they will be heavy and bulky but my new Nitto Terra Grapplers are being shipped via UPS to me so it has to be possible.

Thanks for any info...

I had some shipped to me via USPS. At the time it was the cheapest way. All they do is tape the shipping label to the tire. No packageing necessary. Don't remember the cost.

Never shipped, but received 4 155/85R16 tires from Tire Rack via UPS. Came in the back of the UPS truck just like they rolled off the rack at the tire store, each with a shipping label. Cost about $20/tire IIRC.

I have received tires from Tire Rack as well, and didn't have a problem and I have sent a tire via FedEx and didn't have a problem either. I think they like them, since they don't have to pick them up to move them around in a warehouse.

you can either ship them with a separate label each like suggested or in case you have to go quite a ways and you're close to a big terminal (mostly close to airports) you can also check out www.forwardair.com for stuff that goes into a wooden crate or on a pallet. Shipping stuff through them usually beats the prices of the other ones, especially when it's bulky :)

I second forwardair you can usually just band them to a pallet and they'll ship them and hands down their prices are the best but the recieveer of the good has to pick them up at thier warehouse

I just shipped 4 265-75/17's fedex ground from Reno to Great Falls MT for $23 a tire, Just taped the label to each tire. 3-4 days for a 1000 mile trip. Not a bad price but freight is raising every day. UPS wanted $35 a tire?!
