One of our new 2003 Govt. trucks came with an Auto. It is the SO so one would think it has the 47RE. We see no window stickers or paperwork. Delivered in Early March.

Is there an easy way to tell the difference either by looking on the transmission or the transmission ABC code in glovebox or under hood?

Thanks

The SO engine wouldn't mean anything. The date of manufacture would tell you more. The 48RE's became available for order around the middle of this past December.

differences

I was told that the cases are exactly the same. The only really easy way is to drive the truck. If you pull the trans into 2nd gear from 3rd the torque should stay locked up. I have not tried this to confirm this for myself, but maybe someone can chime in and give some info.
