Engine/Transmission (1998.5 - 2002) Replacing trac-loc discs

I've got code issues I'm trying to resolve.

I want to first eliminate the comp as the problem. Want to run the truck a few hundred miles with the comp not functioning.

Does just turning off the box in the cab totally disable it, or do I need to disconnect under the hood as well?

If the answer is disconnect under the hood too... . why is that?

If the answer is disconnect under the hood, does it ALL have to be disconnected, or just some of it?

Bombs in my sig.

thanks... .

Trouble Codes

First off let me say that I just went through the same thing.

To unhook your comp and eliminate it as a possibility, the only absolute way is to unhook it all. However I have a feeling your probably working on a MAP related code. Are you? If your getting a map sensor high circuit(p0238) or map sensor low circuit(p0237) type code or any p023x code then try just unplugging the map sensor harness part of the Comp and plugging the stock plug into the stock MAP and disconnecting the power for the comp at the fuse tap. That allows you to run just like the Comp isn't there what so ever.

Give us a better description of your problem and we'll try to help more.

We also need to know what codes your getting, when your getting them, and the situation etc...

I tried numerous things.

1st I cleaned and greased all of my connections. No better

2nd I replaced my MAP sensor (300,000+ miles it was due anyway) No Better

3rd I had my Comp replaced thinking it was in the box. No better

4th I cleaned the plug on the back of the comp and the end of the harness, straitened all pins in the harness and re-greased. Better but not perfect still threw 2 codes but better than 8 like before

5th and finally I replaced the entire comp wiring harness.

So far so good.

Let us know.

With the box turned off, the only thing functioning is the MAP sensor limits (boost module). Remove your elbow and unplug the MAP sensor plugs from the Comp and it's as good as not there.

Ok....here we go (long)

Thanks Wes... .

Edge Comp installed ~last of Feb. Replaced EZ.

About three weeks ago, over a period of about a week, cruising at ~30-35 mph. under light throttle..... gave it more throttle and truck just didn't respond for maybe 10 seconds. Didn't stumble... . just didn't respond... . a dead spot. Didn't happen again for a few days... . maybe 4 times total over a period of a week... . never repeated in predictable sequence. I worried/wondered, but didn't take any action.

Last Thursday, 4-10, while starting from a dead stop, the truck just wouldn't pick up speed... . I could barely get up to 10 mph. No stumbling, bucking,... just wouldn't accelerate. After maybe 20 seconds it "caught" and I was back to normal. Freeked out and checked for codes. NOTE: Check Engine Light was NOT on, and have not gotten one through all the rest of the stuff below.

Codes: 1693 (Turbo charge Control Circuit Malfunction)

P-ECU ( Can't identify, but have been told it's not concerning)

0216 (Fuel Injection Pump Timing Failure/Injection Timing Control Circuit Malfunction)

Obviously, the 0216 worries me. Have a Fuel Pressure guage, post filter, and the numbers are strong. Boost and EGT's like always. But, since that date, I have driven over 650 miles and the truck has performed flawlessly, but I can't get rid of the codes.

Tried so far:

4-11: Private mechanic read and cleared codes with scanner. Comp still hooked up and running on level 3 as it was all of the prior time. Drove 200 miles and I did a code check. They were all back, plus I got a 0522 (Engine Oil Pressure Sensor/Switch Circuit Low Voltage) Oil level and pressure are fine. Truck running fine.

Also, we scanned the TPS, checked the MAP sensor plug for fit and dilectric grease, checked the voltage of the red pump wire at the injection pump. All fine.

4-14: Mechanic cleared codes again with scanner, but when they were cleared, the only ones showing at that time were: P-ECU and P0216. ( I don't know what happened to the 1693 and 0522 that were there before)

Turned the comp. off in the cab and drove 30 miles home... . checked codes and got a P-ECU, only.

4-15: Again, with comp. off in cab, drove another 63 miles, checked for codes and they're back... . 1693/P-ECU/P-0216

4-16: Drove another 160 miles and same codes present. Disconnected the negative battery cables for two hours. Checked for codes... P-ECU and P0216 came up. Drove 25 miles and checked again... . the l693 was back with the other two.

So, it appears I can't, by process of elimination, rule out the comp unless I disconnect the whole unit, and I've just been wasting my time just turning it off in the cab. I also think it's strange I've never gotten a Check Engine Light, especially with a code involving the injection pump.

Any other ideas/suggestions appreciated. Sorry for the book.

Joe,Mine started the same thing last week, got the ecm,1693,0237codes,cleared them and they are back again today!funny thing is the first time it happend no power, restarted truck and the thing ran better than it ever has. milage was up and power was what it should be,for about 3 days then all over again. this time it wants to not respond and then it goes. what gives?

I have had my Edge Comp well over a year now,. and for 30000 miles. I havent had any problems with it,I love it and I went one week without(sent in for drag upgrade),and it was the worst week of my life. ( i still had an EZ on there, but it just isnt the same). Id buy another Comp box in a second, and if you have any trouble, you wont find a better company to deal with than Edge.

Steve...

Please, I am not inferring that there is anything wrong with my comp or worse, Edge products overall.

I've got code and "stalling/deadspot" issues, and to find out why I've got to follow a strategy, step by step to arrive at a credible solution. That comp obviously is in the mix here because I'm getting an injector pump code. I'm just simply using the comp as a starting point.

Today the comp was totally un-hooked, and I'm going to run it that way for a week, checking for codes each day. It's going to be a long week without it hooked up.

Like Snow man says, Edge customer service is excellent. I've already been asking Aaron questions to help me better understand how it all works. The first call he told me no problem exchanging. I want to be fair and not just blame the box and ask for an exchange without knowing it's justified. I want answers without needlessly throwing parts at the problem.

Hook yours up..... you'll love it.
